The SAK for all seasons (Outrider Love)
on: March 04, 2016, 11:26:09 PM
Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen, I come here before you to stand behind you to tell you something I know nothing about,

You all like scissors and saws, polls and Farmer/Pioneer mods have proven this beyond contestation.

So I give you the Outrider, everything a growing boy needs (Corkscrew AND Phillips? Hoy!), locking knife, in a nice 111mm package

It's my go to when I'm not carrying a Wave, or want something less intense (ie - not OHO) than the OHT.

I'm going on a holiday where One-handed knives are frowned upon, and the Outrider is top contender for daily carry.

Does anyone else enjoy this less-lauded powerpack of tools?

I don't have one, but it's been on my radar for ages now.  I really would have liked one for my recent hike where I wanted the long saw of the 111mm, but also wanted scissors.  i ended up carrying my Vic Forester and Climber Small.  The Outrider would have fitted the bill perfectly.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Apparently I am outside the window for modifying my post, so here's some more chatter -

For those playing the home game, without the wherewithal to look it up - The Vic Outrider is a 111mm locking SAK (Packlock I think they call it, not liner lock)
It has a PE main blade, woodsy saw,  in line phillips (no. 1?) scissors, caplifter and can opener - on the rear it has the reamer and corkscrew.

It offers great function if you
A. Don't carry a Multitool
or
B. Your multi doesn't have a saw or scissors.

It doesn't get much pocket time, as there is pretty high duplication with my LM Wave, but it's a top drawer/toolbox/manbag favourite (it usually lives in my first aid kit, but since that is always near by, it does a bunch of other tasks, and is not as sterile as it should be) and has been a quiet achiever for about 5 years. I always forget to give it credit as it is not "EDC", but I definitely recommend it to those looking for a capable little red friend!

Surprising just how different those two are.
