SAK in a FAK
on: April 08, 2016, 10:13:08 AM
Do you keep a SAK in your FAK? Here's my FAK with an Explorer (for the scissors, mag and tweezers):

Along with the Explorer I have a pair of gloves, anti bac gel, a couple of dressings in different sizes, plasters, tape and anti bac wipes.

Do you have one and what's in it?

Not a FAK - I suppose you'd call it a 'possibles pouch' - but it does contain a basic set of plasters, wipes, steri-strips, micropore tape, gloves and some painkillers.  I've got a Swiss Card in mine - for the scissors, tweezers and pin - and a bunch of other useful stuff such as a lighter, spare light and battery, pens, sewing kit, duct tape and cache battery:

Nice! I like the sewing kit. With the ducttape I'm worried that it loses adhesion like that but I guess I'm wrong. I must add some to mine. Do you wrap it around itself?

I think the sewing kit came from a hotel, years ago. Proved pretty useful, but I ought to add a sacking needle and some heavier thread.

The tape is wrapped around a piece of plastic, from a milk bottle I think. Seems sticky enough. :tu:

First Aid Kit.

Now ask me if I just started the thread because it rhymes with SAK?

I do keep a FAK with the usual contents. I don't presently have any knife in it because I always have one or more on me.  Having one in the kit is a pretty good idea though.

No medical based FAK more the EDC-FIRST-AID-PACK (Maxpedition Fatty).
No SAK inside but a Leatherman Juice. Does this count?

I keep SAKs near my FAKs, not inside them. I must change that though (and take some pics maybe).

But... but... but I don't have one! I might consider getting one to send it over there, though, if tempted enough: tell me, magentus, will you be bashing yourself on the head with it tools open or closed? Will you be using a lanyard for extra inertia? Lastly, will you repeat the experiment, for science's sake?

Speaking as a founder member of the SWUK SAK Danger Club, it goes without saying that it will be tools out, standard 100mm lanyard, repeated 3 times for science.

Aha! wrong answer, I'm afraid.

I was expecting something like: front tools closed for more mass, back tools open for more pleasure impact...

Currently, no.  The only thing I've got mine that can cut something is a pair of ADC Mini-Medicut trauma shears, plus the crappy undersized shears (blades aren't much bigger than those on 91mm scissors) the base kit I started with included, that I don't know why I haven't thrown them away yet.

I plan to move to a bigger bag (other than the small toiletries bag I used originally), and then add a Rescue Tool to it if I can find one cheap used.   If the need ever becomes that I have to access someone entrapped, I will have this just in case.
