Wenger Standard Issue
on: April 27, 2016, 11:05:17 AM
I got a joblot of soldiers and I was wondering should a Wenger SI have a year printed?

Also I got a 96 soldier that has a Lanyard?? Seemed a bit odd I have never seen that before.

There are some SI's without a year but if it does have one it should be in the same place as the Solf=dier.

Vic made some Soldiers with the hollow rivet  - a search should tell you what years they were made. I can see no advantage in NOT having the hollow rivet - very strange that they chose not too. I had a Soldier years ago but quickly swapped it for an SI.

Morning Mag mate,

Its not a hollow Rivet it is an actual lanyard hole like you would get on a Pioneer or a farmer.

Ooooo! That's interesting. You'll have to wait until someone more knowledgable comes along then. How many did you get in the job lot?

You mean like this? (an uncommon keyring version of the Soldier) There are a number of years that have the keyring but are seldom seen for sale. I have a '96 and a '97. The dateless Wenger SI is post 2008 and is known as a Swiss Army 70. (see  http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Wenger+Soldat+1961+-+Standard+Issue )

I paid more for mine but they were mint. Collectors are interested in them but realistically they have the least desirable ALOX feature added to them. Their scarcity makes them valuable.
