Gerber Recon
on: September 06, 2008, 06:19:06 PM
Does anyone know the output of the Recon is?  I am hoping it is averagely low, similar to low mode on my Fenix P1D Q5.

Many thanks.

Got one love it. Very small and great for the outdoors. Why you looking to get one? I by chance have 2

Battery life is long I get about 3 hrs out of the 1  battery, the finnish is fantastic, and the clip is just OK.

However the thing works well!

What type of switch does it have?

I just want a small, multi-coloured flashlight that isn't retina bursting bright.  I have the Fenix for that.  :D

It has less than 1 lumen output circa 2005, duno if they upgraded or not since then. But it still won't have as much output as p1d low.

If it is lower, that is even better.  :)

Twist type in the tail. Actually I use mine all the time, and love it for work, and especially map reading.

Thanks for the info guys.  I think I may have to invest in one.  The red LED will be perfect for work as it won't dazzle the kids when I am checking on them in the night.

It is my understading that the Recon is built off the Gerber Infinity Ultra.  It is basically the same light, with a rotating filter on the front.  If that is true, the runtime should be 2-3 days not 3 hours.

So it is a pretty low level light then?  And I'd imagine the red filter would be pretty undazzling (is that even a word) when shone on sleeping kids then?

Yes.  The Gerber IU is around 3-5 lumens, so this should be the same.  3-5 lumens is a pretty low level--even the "white" output shouldn't be enough to really disturb anyone's night vision.  Def uses the IU in a dark bar to illuminate customer IDs.  I have white and red versions of the IU that I use with dark-adapted eyes frequently.  The red IU has a red LED, not a red filter like the Recon.
