I really can't find a better EDC than a craftsman, it has more than what is needed and still fits in my pocket without too much bulge.

Funny coincidence, I dug mine out today!
Gotta stop keeping it in a field.

But let's face it, there's nothing more annoying that finding the Philips is in the wrong place to be usable.

I think I have been unable to reach a Philips screw with the back mounted driver more times than I have used it. (Either because the screw was recessed or placed right next to something making it impossible to turn the knife.)  :D

THe Craftsman is a fine design, indeed. I had mine in the car for a long time. But now I put it back into its drawer. I don´t know why - it never let me down. But they seem to be rare and not so many available. At least it seems so to me.

One shop had them for 31 euros each a couple of years ago. They only had 3 of them - so I bought them all.
One of them is still sitting in its box, never used. In about 200 years it'll be worth, ooh, 50 euros!

I love my Craftsman. Pre 1986 fish scaler instead of pliers.

For some reason I can get that one sharper then any other SAK I have and it stays sharp forever. Makes me wonder about the quality of the newer knifes?

I like the new ones but as you know, I like the older ones better....thicker blades etc....maybe Vic tweeked the steel or changed the grind on the thinner blades...IDK. The new Vics are still amazing but the old ones are "marvelous".  :D

Here's my early one.

I was quite surprised when I sharpened my other Craftsman, a '75ish model to a razor's edge--something I've never been able to do with any newer SAK.  Different steel?  It is, by the way, my oldest SAK.    I don't carry it that much, since it was never oiled, and thus, some of the backside tools are loose.

By the way, anyone know how to put a replacement spring in the older tools with the smaller hole for the spring? The older Craftsman's spring was broke when I got it, and a new replacement  91mm scissor spring did not fit.

I have a '87-90 model that I carry almost all the time.  In fact, it's in my pocket today.

How much thicker is a Swisschamp compared to the Craftsman  I have never really known the tool configuration of the older ones and I really like it :ahhh Guess I have another knife to add to my list  :D

27 mm vs 33 mm. SAKWiki is your friend. Either you find it there, or you put it there after having found your answers elsewhere. ;)

That pic is an awesome comparison pic  I am gonna have to track a vintage Craftsman down cause it looks like a very pocketable sized SAK and although I like the pliers of this line I think I like the thinner profile better :tu: If I can the current Craftsman would be fine though because I do on occasion pocket carry my Swiss Champ :D
