The awl sits in a corkscrew slot which is just too deep. Really.
See for yourself on any SAK that has both awl and corkscrew.
Open them both and then compare the depth of the slots.

See in the pic below how low the awl sits.

Too bad the hook didn't work or there wasn't another tool that could be used instead of the awl. Still, it's a great combo.
