Thanks for the encouragement guys!A friend of SWMBO has donated me a block of wood, cut from a tree he felled (he's a landscape gardener) to see if I can make scales from it. I think he said it is Yew - but can't remember for sure, but it seems pretty hard!Problem is, I don't have the tools, know-how or confidence to cut it into slats I'm currently asking around to see if anyone can cut it for me, and then I'll be trying another one.If anyone has donor knives they might be interested in parting with for a paltry sum - please let me know! I want to have a go with "new" condition tools and liners now and see if I can make a knife that's a bit more presentable.I'll fire off a mail to felinevet I think.......

Sandpaper....and lots of it Cut it roughly to the size you need then get sanding, takes a while but worth it Good work on the mod too
Its not a huge chunk of cherry but then SAKs aren't big knives. Hopefully I've got enough for one little one and enough to rescale an old soldier.I've definitely got files, probably saws, might be pushing it on pliers as I think Mikko had my last but you never know. Most of them are under a big pile of crud on my worktop Neil
