Leatherman s2 small flat head
on: July 14, 2016, 04:00:53 AM
So just signed up since I couldn't find any answers online! So before I get started... What's up?

Ok, so my question is I recently aquired a s2 and I tried to deploy the small flat head (the smallest one) and when I go to close the multitool (leaving the bit out) the pliers jam with the other 2 flat head bits? Anyone else expirience this or is it just me? Thanks :)

Thanks for replying  after playing with it some more, I noticed it only happens when the pliers were fully opened then attempting to close it when the small flathead is out :tu:

Yep, seems like a poor design but it's something I can live with, other than that I love this thing! It's small, light and more than robust pliers for what I need :tu:

Is the S2 the same one from your avatar pic  If so it is the newer Juice line (same as old line except scales are a bit different and knife blade little shorter) :tu:

+1 - while I rarely carry mine, it's a great little multi.

Welcome aboard! :multi:

This is actually a problem on many folding pliers-based tools. The extent of the problem really depends on what tool you have open to use and how much you close the plier head before fully folding the handles.

The tools in the handles are configured so that when they are all closed, the pliers ride on top and shouldn't bind. Some, like the Wave/Charge/Surge have plier rests to allow different tool configurations.

The ends of the pliers tend to find the gap created by the open tool and follow it. This means they get bound up at some point as the thicker portion of the pliers tries to fit in.

The best way to get around this is to slightly modify your closing technique so the pliers are mostly closed prior to seating deeply in the handles. This has worked for me.
