Finding a Birth Year Soldier
on: July 18, 2016, 10:11:37 AM
Has anybody had any luck off of ebay, or does anyone have any other good places that sell old knives?

Im looking for a red 75 if I can find one. Ive been watching ebay for a while, but like most of the rare ones...... they dont come up too often.

As far as I know there are no red ones from '75. Only the early models from the 60's are red.

Your best chances to find an affordable Soldier model from the '70s are on ricardo.ch (a Swiss eBay-like auction site). Some sellers are willing to ship outside of Switzerland if you ask them kindly :)

Good luck!

Thanks! The ricardo site looks like it should be fruitful.

On the red handles, thats what I was thinking too, but the wiki says there were some red ones made for a few odd years, under the variations header.
So if its true...... thats the one I want......  :gimme:

I have wanted to track down a 1980 model for myself  How hard would one of those be to track down in a fairly normal price range or am I kidding myself with a normal price range ??? :D

1980 should be fairly easy... my guess is between 40 to 80$ for a decent one.

I got mine (silver '78) from here: http://www.couteaux-du-soldat-suisse.ch/J02/index.php/en/category/20-1961-models
No 1975 or 1980 there at the moment but worth keeping an eye on.

I found my '79 on Facebook in an Alox group. A member here posted it for sale, and I jumped on it. I'd been looking for some time with no luck. :tu: As a bonus, Mr. Whippy also had a '79 marked OC Pioneer which he was nice enough to make a trade for. So, after years of no luck, I found two 79's in two weeks!

Happened to me too... when I started looking I bought the first decent one... then I found one in even better condition... and finally one that looks like new :D
Now, I have 3 '76 soldiers ::)

So if I can find a way to time travel back and be born in 1979  then problem solved :tu:

Congrats on getting both JD :tu:

If you get desperate I've got a Wenger 1980 model here.
Unfortunately it's seen VERY hard use during it's service.

I haven't been able to find a 1966 so far, but I'm not desperate or in any kind of hurry.  I doubt I would carry it because I like having scissors, but it would be nice to have one and get the merit badge.

There have been a couple of 66's on E-bay in the last six months. I need  a 67 myself and have only seen a couple of those in the last year.

I'm looking for a 74 at a reasonable price.  Prefer a Vic but not a requirement.

I tried to get that 79 but you were just a little faster. Next time I need to jump on it. That 79 was an awesome deal, and that blade wasn't all that bad.

Good luck with that.  Victorinox didn't officially produce a Soldier knife in '72 or '74.  That having been said, a very small number of 1974 knives were produced, but expect to pay a smurf ton of money for one as collectors are quite rabid when they become available.

There are a few options though:

1974 AMEFA Soldier:

1974 Camillus Demo Knife:

This image is the Camillus Demo knife, the KL74 and two 1974 Wenger SI's.
