I found my '79 on Facebook in an Alox group. A member here posted it for sale, and I jumped on it. I'd been looking for some time with no luck. :tu: As a bonus, Mr. Whippy also had a '79 marked OC Pioneer which he was nice enough to make a trade for. So, after years of no luck, I found two 79's in two weeks!

I tried to get that 79 but you were just a little faster. Next time I need to jump on it. That 79 was an awesome deal, and that blade wasn't all that bad.

Yeah, that blade sharpened up nicely. I really need to carry it more. The Red 79 Pioneer I got from Mr. Whippy here (offered to me in the same FB group) has been seeing a TON of pocket time.

Def actually made a good point. I know, that's rare.... My first birth year knife was a 1979 Camillus Demo knife. In the US, they're easy to find with different manufacturers and dates. Any flea market, gun show, etc is likely to have at least one, and sometimes many more, sellers with an assortment of Demo's. They're not a Vic or Wenger, but neat in their own right. :tu:

Careful, people may start to think I have an idea of what I am talking about...

Can't have that....

Frankly I think that it just shows how poor the education system in New Jersey really is...

I'm looking for a 74 at a reasonable price.  Prefer a Vic but not a requirement.

Good luck with that.  Victorinox didn't officially produce a Soldier knife in '72 or '74.  That having been said, a very small number of 1974 knives were produced, but expect to pay a smurf ton of money for one as collectors are quite rabid when they become available.

There are a few options though:

1974 AMEFA Soldier:

1974 Camillus Demo Knife:

(Image removed from quote.)

This image is the Camillus Demo knife, the KL74 and two 1974 Wenger SI's.

Thanks for the info Grant. Somehow I missed seeing this until now.

Do you know why Victorinox didn't make one those years? It seems odd they would just skip a year. Please excuse my ignorance but I have no clue what AMEFA stands for. Can you give me a general idea of how much a Wenger would be and just out of curiosity, how much is a smurf ton?

I'm still searching for a '77 Soldier, If I had the choice, I would prefer Victorinox over Wenger, but either of them would do ...

Anybody here maybe got a spare '77 Soldier ... ?

I can confirm Wenger has the year '72.  Mine's not in the best shape though...
Doesn't matter, I'm younger   ;)

Happened upon this 77 a few years ago. Weird thing was I had access to a 77 wenger a week later but passed on it. Haven't seen a single one since.

I've seen my birth year SAK for sale, a 59 Wenger :ahhh

Trouble is I don't have a spare £121 just now.

Typically, when I do have the funds there are none to be found anywhere.

As far as I know there are no red ones from '75. Only the early models from the 60's are red.

Your best chances to find an affordable Soldier model from the '70s are on ricardo.ch (a Swiss eBay-like auction site). Some sellers are willing to ship outside of Switzerland if you ask them kindly :)

Good luck!

Thanks! The ricardo site looks like it should be fruitful.

On the red handles, thats what I was thinking too, but the wiki says there were some red ones made for a few odd years, under the variations header.
So if its true...... thats the one I want......  :gimme:

Models produced during the years of 1962 through 1964 were made with Red Alox Scales.

Be prepared to pay used car prices for those.....
I have one of those used cars... but it has been in an accident :D
