The weather is turning cooler where I live and it's the perfect opportunity to get out in the woods behind my house and get a look at nature for a few hours. This time of year also gives me the urge to buy a Morakniv or two. Last year I took the plunge and got my first Mora, an orange Companion in stainless and a Rookie in stainless for my son. We had a great time practicing our knife skills and knife safety, making tent stakes, feather sticks and some light batoning. Since then I purchased a Craftline 546 for when he gets a bit older and I recently got a Garberg after looking at it for about a year. We did some backyard camping and I got a chance to use the Garberg. This thing is a beast compared to the Companion ( full disclosure, I still love the Companion). It took a little time to get used to the thicker blade when making feather sticks but patience paid off. It really excelled at batoning soft wood and threw a ton of sparks of my ferro rod. I'm looking forward to using the Garberg exclusively for a few days while camping. I can't believe what a great knife you get for the money with Moras. Now I have to resist the urge to buy a Kansbol to see how it stacks up against the Garberg...and an Eldris because it looks so cool...and another Craftline for the truck kit...and another Companion just because.  :ahhh

Any change to get out and use your Mora is a perfect time.  I am a huge fan of backyard camping with young kids.  What a great way to teach them in a comfortable environment.  Pitch the tent, have cooler with food/drink, use a fire pit, and enjoy.  Nice thing is the latrine is close by.

Now as for other Moras.  The Eldris is great and since I got my partner one there is another flavor available, the light duty.  I also really like the Classic Mora with red handle.  You decide the right size but man this is a neat knife.  You can get one with finger guard as well as one called the Scout with full guard.  I have one of the full guard ones, its an older Frost one and full disclosure, its small.

I whole-heartedly agree about the backyard camping. I'd much rather find out he's not in to sleeping outdoors when it's only a 30 second walk rather than a 3 hour drive back home.

I'm really itching for an Eldris now. And a Classic. It seems that my SAK collecting has now turned in to Mora collecting. Man this site can get expensive!

I totally understand.  I love collecting SAKs, but I also love the Mora knives....so much value you get for your money with the Moras.

I have a Companion, Basic 546, and Pro. Absolutely great knives.

However, the Basic and Pro have a small gap between the base of the handle and the sides of the blade where water can and does get into. It's only a very narrow gap, but I think I should fill it somehow.

I'm debating trying to melt the handle into the sides of the blade, or fill it with hot glue or something that has a bit of give to it. Any ideas?

First time using my Robust today. I strugled against a green plant internode... Than testing it spliting some wood, pound it realy hard and the edge was just like before. Also impressive slim shavings.
I think its fairly unbeatable because its 13€... There's no hesitation in puting it at hard work.

I think I'm qualified to join this club. This Garberg doesn't see much use (mostly because I live in a state that makes carry of a fixed blade a PITA), but it's very capable of handling every task I've thrown at it.
