I started to look closer on the newly arrived Huntsman with buffalo horn scales. I noticed the outer liners seemed thicker than ususal.

And they are.

Here is my Cellidor Huntsman of the same age:

Mine has a aluminum head tweezer. When it arrived I thought it being a nice surprise - but I also thought it being misplaced on a post 1991 Victorinox.

Searched the net for reference pictures and  there is a Huntsman on the bay. A little earlier but not that much. And it has the thicker liners too.

Pictures borrowed from the auction:

AND it has the aluminum head tweezers too... (and it is not that old)

The thicker liners are probably there to give the knife with buffalo scales better support - making it stiffer, as the horn scales probably are more brittle. To see if there is a "thing" with the aluminium head tweezers I need more reference pictures.

Anyone out there with a Huntsman buffalo?

Have I made a genuine discovery (mainly the thicker outer liners) or is this old news?

Found yet another auction for a buffalo Huntsman. The liners cannot be seen properly - but there is a aluminum head tweezer.

I belive there is a thing going on here... Too much to be a coincidence. It seems the metal head tweezers were still delivered up to the early 90ies - with the buffalo scales.

Found some more to strenghten the case (thicker outer liners and alu head tweezers on 90ies Victorinox buffalo horn).

Two examples of SwissChamp buffalo horn - both with parcel hook placing them in time. Pictures borrowed from the net.

1.

2.

Cellidor for comparison.

Great detective work J2000

When I get home at the weekend - I am going to have to check my one horn scaled SAK - Although mine is a very old Spartan/234au

I have only older horn scale Spartan (early 60’s?) and the liners seem to be of normal width - looks like the reinforcement was introduced only in later years.
