 Thanks fellow Knights and Ranger fans! It was a bit of an additional challenge to keep the scales 'nice' for the month. Normally hangs out in a change/watch pocket in jeans or a pocket alone.  I use a pouch if it has to be in a pocket with keys, etc. It'll get a light polish and cleaning and put away.

And I think I have a bit of a Ranger problem...another one came in yesterday!

Hello everyone. I have a couple of Victorinox Swiss army knives and is fairly new to this forum.  I just found this thread and thought it will be a good place to seek some advice.

I need help identifying a Victorinox with a Camping tent logo. What I have looks like possibly a Ranger as it is 91mm and the layer tools looks the same set as the Ranger but there are only 3 back layer tools (corkscrew, reamer and small slotted screwdriver) and the reamer does not have an eyelet.

Anyone can help me identify this?  Is it an older Ranger model or is it a different model altogether?

Older model.  With the grooved corkscrew and lack of the sewing eye I'd guess that's from the early '70s.
Someone with more knowledge of dating SAKs than I will weigh in.

Welcome Firetower, I also date it 1970, you can find it in the 1970s catalog in SAK Wiki : https://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-browse_gallery.php?galleryId=91  :hatsoff:

:bump:

It occurs to me that the Ranger would be a serious contender for the "if I could only have one...." question.  Still small enough that I don't mind pocket carrying it and yet packs in all the features and tools I like.  Fatter models also, to my mind, start to get more awkward to use.  Ever tried using the SwissChamp as a large flat screwdriver?  It's a PITA.

That's a nice one Gareth!  Actually, I've talked with a lot of people who only carry a Ranger and rarely need more.  I've always considered it to be a pocket friendly Swiss Champ.

"Pocket friendly Swiss Champ" I think sums it up very nicely indeed.  :tu:

You're going to like it Sir V.  It's a Huntsman with all the cool backtools and a great file.

It’s early ‘80s. Looks like ‘83-ish +/-
