My Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, formerly running Android 4.4.2 Kitkat is now running Resurrection Remix / Android 9 Pie!
I needed to open the script of a file and delete a few lines either on the Oreo version or this Pie version which I was pointed to. I'm currently downloading apps and setting everything up....

What's a good music player for Android? I already have Spotify but I tend not to stream on my phone so it would be primarily for playing off my SD card.

Anyone got a Network Unlock Key code for an old SII?  Or a way to get one free?

Are those things different in the US?
I believe that here, it's serial number specific.
And that the network will give it to you for free if your plan is up, or you've spent enough money on phone credit with them.
You can get the number without fulfilling those conditions, but it costs extra, usually done by a third party phone repair store.

This is a T Mobile phone.  I was just messing with it and trying to see if my Att SIM card would work.  Phone said needs Network Unlock Key.  I guess I can root it but wanted to see if anyone had a source for network unlock key.  I can pay for one but I was mostly just fooling with the phone.  New to Android and Galaxy.

Try the XDA Developers forum.: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/network-unlock-control-key-t1790632

I don't find it the easiest to navigate, but it's where the experts live.

There is a process to unlock a carrier locked phone  I read tons on it a few years ago but all the info is in there but I am afraid the access to memory in my brain has slowed in the last few years    I have bought unlocked phones that worked with Verizon towers and used them with a different company that uses the same towers :salute: I am thinking that T-Mobile may be easier to unlock than companies like Verizon :salute:

Try Youtube :D they have videos on how to do everything  :D

I was hoping to be cheap since the phone is an older one.  I have seen paid services that guarantee to send a unlock code.  I"ll check out the links you fellas gave  :tu:.  Thank you both.

I will also call T Mobil and ask if they'd unlock the phone.  Worth a try a least.

So the other day a security update comes out for the wife's phone, she installs it, and now she can't connect to the WIFI at our accommodation anymore (which has been flakey for a few of our devices beforehand).

Aggravating since I don't have enough free space on the laptop to do a full backup of it to factory wipe it and see if that fixes the issue. I have tried just about everything else suggested that I found on the net. Bonus frustration since she is limited to only 1Gb data/month while roaming abroad. Also since she takes heaps of photos with it and usually backs them up to google photos on the wifi when we get back.

I did get it to sync her photos the other day by using my phone as a hotspot, never noticed before today that it's either wifi or hotspot, I can't make a hotspot and use the wifi for data. Luckily my limit is 10Gb a month and I'm nowhere near hitting it.

That being said I'm kinda drooling over the specs of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 range.

And they should outlaw giving you only a year of updates for your phone. :D
How long did Microsoft provide updates for Windows 7?

I have ordered a 64GB usb stick from amazon, sadly couldn't use my Spanish Prime account, as it won't deliver to an amazon locker in France so they forced me to use .FR and I had to do the minimum 25 euro order to get free albeit slow shipping. I had some other smalls I wanted, one of my usb cables was starting to fray near the plug, and my activity band is cracking (and the security loop actually broke off it).

hopefully then I can back it up and get it fresh and happy again.

I have a big bunch of microSD cards and USB drives on the way from amazon. I never want to lack for portable storage. :D
I was also planning to buy some cheap second hand hard disk drives for more data storage (I'm planning on mirroring anything I put on them! :dwts:)

Hehe.
The 16gb cards seem great for random tasks and swappable OS'es for a Raspberry Pi.
I'll do some fun stuff with the USB sticks, like encrypting some for personal data storage and putting linux tools on the others.

so I sit down today now that I have a 64gb usb3 stick to backup the phone to, install the LG software suite to backup and before I start I decided to pull the sim and memory card and boot it up... low and behold the WIFI works again.

power down, put it all back to normal and it's fine...  :bnghd:

I just used one of the new USBs to install a new version of Linux on my laptop.
I used the Linux Mint system I already had on the laptop to download and burn Kubuntu to the USB, then I used the USB to delete Mint and install Kubuntu.
I didn't prepare the BIOS though, so it was a rough process to get it to work.
