Does anyone keep a Classic (or Explorer) as a key chain knife as sometimes advertised?
I'm paranoid about scratches .....  :dunno:

I have a Classic Tony.  It's tough keeping it from getting beat up, but it's nice to have.

Not anymore - I have too many keys and I'm afraid of scratching the SAK.  I have a Griffin tool as well... haven't been impressed with it to be quite honest... but it was too expensive to put in the desk drawer,   :dunno:

I keep coming across that sentiment too Tony, which makes me wonder why Vic doesn't do more with it accessory wise, or in that size.  In today's world, the 74mm should be a winner!

The executive is such an amazing little pocket knife, that it finished off what little knife nut obsessiveness I had left.

Over the past several years, I've been going less and less to the dedicated knife forums like blade forums and such. I had lost all interest in those 'other' kinds of knives. All the stockman, sodbusters, two blade jacks, penknives, Barlows, are all long gone. For the past few years all I have carried is one of my SAK's. And event hen, I gave away most of them that were more than two layers. The classic was ever on my keyring, and a recruit or bantam or waiter was in my pocket.

Now, all I carry is my executive. Its been all I needed since Nix gifted it to me on the 18th of July 2018. It's traveled back and forth from Texas to California many times, been rafting on the Roque River in Oregon, been to party in Key West in checked baggage. Its been woods walking with me and the better half. It saved the life of a beautiful Texas spiny lizard last summer.  It sliced limes for vodka tonics on the veranda of the Yellowstone Lodge to watch Old Faithful in its predicable glory. It's been everything to me that my dad's Case peanut was to him. Chuck Yeager has been my inspiration. There's not a day goes by that I don't use it for something.

Little by little I've been backing away form the knife forums like this and blade forums, and I may just drop now and then. Kind if like the alcoholic that drops by the old neighborhood bar for a club soda and lime just to see old friends again. But I have finally disengaged from the knife collecting thing.

Bottom line; the little executive is a wonderful pocket knife for the times. Since I'm not a buffalo hunter, commando, or caped crusader saving Gotham, its all I need. Its all I will have by choice.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

Do we need a poll...

I had a translucent blue Rambler on my keys for the last 5 years and, while it is scratched up, it doesn't look too beat up unless I hold it under a light. But I just upgraded it this week. I chose the Manager, 'cause the toothpick was my least used tool on the Rambler. It's a little bit thicker but the pen is sure to be used a lot. Anyway, I decided not to worry about scratches. There are more scratch resistant choices, though. There's a wood Wenger design one, and the plain Alox. And I think the glow in the dark Classic would be pretty scratch resistant if you don't mind bright yellow. I have a glow in the dark Climber and it hasn't scratched at all in 2 years. Might be a different story on keys, I dunno.

When I was trying to decide what I wanted to upgrade to, I considered the Midnite Manager and this keychain pouch to keep it scratch-free. Cool thing about this pouch (which I've only seen on European sites) is you can use the flashlight while it's inside the punch. It has a little hole for the light. But I decided I prefer having a USB rechargable keychain light, so I didn't get it.  (At least not yet!) https://www.amazon.fr/Victorinox-V4-0515-Gaine-Mixte-Adulte/dp/B000MLSFF4/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_fr_FR=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&keywords=4.0515&qid=1559079183&s=gateway&sr=8-2 (I don't know for sure which models the pouch is designed for so that the light lines up with the hole, so I could be wrong that it works well with the Midnite Manager.)

I'm new here, by the way. Love Swiss Army knives.
