I have a Toshiba lap top that I used for every thing but paying bills and storing family pictures. I put it on the side table one night with the lid half open and the mouse between the chassis & screen. My old tom cat decided to walk on it & cracked the screen and chassis corner a little. No problem I ordered a new screen and replaced it. Now a year latter the chassis has gotten weak and flexes enough by the hinges to eventually break off.
It still flexes but not as bad as before so I'm hoping the fix holds up.
I've moved it to the shop where I can safely leave it open & moved my 10 year old 11.5" gateway to the living room.
The gateway is running linux kubuntu, it's getting to old to run windows and a virus program now. Celeron SU2300 processors were never known for speed.
