I met Paul Bos today
on: September 18, 2008, 06:23:14 AM
Today I met heat treating guru Paul Bos. I went down to the the Buck Knives factory in Post Falls, Idaho; and I was looking around the company store and I picked up a fixed blade knife. A voice from behind me said "Nice choice, hi I'm Paul Bos. I said it was a real honor to meet you Mr. Bos and we talked for a little bit before he had to leave. He was such a nice guy and he said to the cashier before he left "give this guy my price" and I figured it was for one knife, but it was his price for my entire order.

I kind of felt like I was meeting a movie star or something.  It's not too often that we get to meet the giants of our hobby and especially one as nice as Mr. Bos.

For the discounts! I could care less about Paul! :D

But I wouldn't get the discounts without meeting Paul Bos...

Heck I'll take both. :(

Not too much. I bought two fixed blades, some sharpening gear, and a few other odds and ends. I don't have the model numbers in front of me, but I'll try and post them tomorrow.

I'm packing the Jeep already!  :D

Seriously, did you tell him to check out Multitool.org? :D   :pok:

As for meeting a rock star, you now know how Bob and I felt last year when we asked at the LM booth at the SHOT Show if there was ever to be a chance of getting an interview with Tim Leatherman and they said he was standing right behind us!  :D

You hear these names over and over again, and it's kind of overwhelming when there's a living, breathing person in front of you!  Just remember, they put their pants on the same as you- one blade at a time!  :D

Def, I did talk to Paul a little bit about the forum, but he said he just doesn't have time anymore. He named one forum the ruined the whole froum experience for him. Anyway, you are so right that they are just people like you and me. So you got to meet Tim Leatherman? Did you get the interview?

That's a great story GG - do you think the discount you got was karma? You gave a lot of stuff away recently - here's your payback ;)

I used to come here a lot.

Yes and no- there was no specific interview, but as you have seen from previous posts (most notably the Japanese PST revelation) we have managed to get an "inside track" to some pretty major information.
