To all those make this thread one of the best on MTO  :salute:.  You have sparked a fun and fulfilling part to my interests.  I love learning and seeing what you post so keep it up.  My collection unlike my MT collection likely wont grow as fast or large but I'm having a lot more fun.

Not sure what this new year will bring nor am I looking that far ahead.  What I am excited for is the continued energy this thread has and brings to MTO.

Last year I welcomed some great new trads and benched a few.  I'm very happy with what I have tho truth be told my eye wanders from time to time.

Thank you all and lets all make 2023 one of the best yet.

Steve - Just when I think you got awl the variety
A knife guy would want you pull more out of the air.  Very nice examples.  😉

David - I was thinking just a couple days ago, “haven’t seen any Moose lately!”
Nice duo😎

For me today, I pocketed two knives. My standby Blue bareheaded Tribal and the lady knife received in 2022, a Camillus 709, half Whittler, single layer. That is awaiting cleanup.

My other that arrived and needs more attention is this Robenson.

What a wonderful Robeson.  I have to admit I am slightly biased as my Robeson is one of my oldest and favorites.

Any idea of date of manufacturing on that Robeson LC?

What a wonderful Robeson.  I have to admit I am slightly biased as my Robeson is one of my oldest and favorites.

Any idea of date of manufacturing on that Robeson LC?

The blade pivots are very dirty and rust has built up. A gentle scraping has revealed the tang stamp is -
ROBESON / SHUREDGE / U. S. A.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Which I decided to be 1940 - 1964 maybe.

The reverse side as a number imprinted -

9 2 2 2 5 3
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The 9 does not fit the chart I found as the scales are definitely WOOD.
So starting with the 2, Rosewood or Walnut.
2nd 2 is number of blades 2
3rd 2 is Brass Liner & Bolsters
4&5th is the pattern. 53

Any ideas what the 9 may indicate???

Cleanup on this will tedious as I do not to harm the Wood scales. That was the feature that drew me to purchase.

Any insights will be welcome😎

Thank you Gareth.

This knife I am approaching as a rescue.
I purchase solely for the scales being wood and did not look hard at the condition of the steel.

But, you have influenced me to look at Pen knives, and I do my best to grab those that are longer than 3 inches generally. 922253

Always fun to do a bit of rescue work.  This Foreign pen came to me in a pretty grotty (and rusty) state.

 :tu: on the date.  What I saw for 9 2 2 2 5 3 was,

9 Shurwood
2 number of blades
2 brass liner and bolster

Fourth fifth and sixth numbers are pattern #
 253

Yes, I saw the same list, but was not sure what Shurwood was, suspecting it to be synthetic.

This knife scales are Wood and resembles a tight grain as my Buck Rosewood models. That is why I discounted the 9.

Have not found a pattern listing, and the listing indicated a 2 digit number for patterns, not a 3.

You are correct.  It is Shurwood. The pattern is apparently the Senator.

Neat article and Case connection.

“Shur-Wood” stabilized wood.  Be interesting to what stabilized wood.

Robeson after the rust on other blade grime has been removed.

Shurwood scales even look brighter.

Next is even up the blade edges as it seems a grinder had been used prior.
