111 mm Level 1 Badge Request
on: March 25, 2019, 11:25:15 PM
For my birthday recently my lovely wife and son got me a brand new red Picnicker.  It joins the identical-except-in-name Nomads, green and black, my one-handed Bund and Hunter XT, and the Swiss Cheese SAK.

The 111 mm models might be the final frontier of SAK collecting for me.  I know the least about them, have owned them the least number of years, and am really struck by their usefulness.  Hardly something you'd carry in your pocket on a daily basis, but strong and capable in your backpack or glovebox.

The Swiss Cheese collectible lives in the kitchen and gets used several times a week (and thanks to Jaydar for sourcing it for me).  The black Nomad was bought as a kitchen tool when my wife was living in Ireland for the year, so it has a lot of miles on it.  The two one-handers were gifts from friends, and now the red Picnicker joins this happy group.

Just two more to go and I'll qualify for the Level 2 badge.   For all you good 111 mm collectors out there, what do you recommend?  Any discontinued models I should seek out?

Thanks for reading my post, and cheers to MTo members everywhere!

Myron

Awarded.  Nice selection of 111s.  As far as the next one?  I think the Rescue Tool is a neat one.  I also like the Skipper and Helmsman with those shackle tool/marlin spike.

You need this one, obviously!
It's the wooden handled Forester - possibly the greatest 111mm that ever was and ever will be!

Awesome collection! I suggest a Fireman, Dutch Army Dual Pro, and/or a Master RT.   I use the former and the latter quite regularly (and they're 2 out of 4 of my current 111mm). The Master RT was something I sort of pursued and finally got--by accident. I ordered a used Soldier, and the Master RT showed up instead.  I didn't say a thing to the seller, although I did have to give up my beloved NIB Caterpillar ad Small Tinker, as the ordered Soldier was supposed to be a gift, and the guy I gave it to ran Caterpillar equipment for 30 years. For mechanical work, it always comes in handy. Blade can cut belts and hoses without problem, and 3 screwdrivers and a file with its aggressive metal saw and file   Oh, and an Italian/Polish Police Rescue Tool. It adds a wood saw.

The Dutch Army Dual Pro and Cheese knife will probably be what completes my needs for the 111mm badge.  I eat a ton of cheese, so the Cheese knife will be replacing my Opinel 12, which is just a bit too big.  Dual Pro will probably be a shelf queen.

Thanks Thunderpants and Cody!   Both of your posts reminded me of how much I like the Winemaster.  I think I'll do it and a Rescue Tool next!
