This is a living kefir mushroom that has been "living" with us for over 20 years. It lives in and on milk and ferments it into a kind of yogurt.

It came with the knife. I don't know if they were issued with these army knives back then, but you still sometimes see old Fiber Soldiers with this green cloth pouch in Switzerland.
