Suggest a knife for me
on: December 01, 2024, 04:10:23 AM
I’m a big fan of the Leatherman Free series tools and carry one most days, but it’s not really UK legal without a specific reason to have it on me.

I’m doing the Bond Challenge in the new year, and while I think it’ll cover most, if not all of, my needs, I’d like to pair it with a small folder.

My requirements are one hand opening, blade length of under three inches (much shorter is fine), non-locking. I prefer a serrated or combo blade.

Years ago I had a Spyderco Co-Pilot and loved it. A non-locking version would be perfect, but doesn’t seem to exist. The closest I’ve found is the Squeak, but I can’t find a serrated version.

Any suggestions for me?

I thought one hand opening was a no-no also. Are one hand openers UK legal?

How about a serrated Spyderco UK Penknife?

I think in some European countries you can have locking OR one hand opening, which is why the 2H Wave + exists, but in the UK one hand opening is fine, as long as it’s under three inches and doesn’t lock.

Sounds good, but I can only find the plain edge for sale online.

Does a serrated version exist?

Edited to add : I’ve found a yellow handled Salt version of the UK Penknife with serrated blade, but out of stock.

Looks like American Edge has it in stock (not sure if they ship internationally though) and Knife Center is taking pre-orders.

Thanks, I’ll have a look.

It doesn’t have to be Spyderco, I’m just slightly more familiar with their products than other stuff. I do want something decent quality.

As I’m sure you know, your specs are pretty niche:
1.  OHO
2.  Blade length < 3”
3.  Non-locking
4.  SE or CE blade

In particular, #1 & #3 are very difficult to find together.  #4 is a minority.  Spyderco was my first and really only thought that might check all those boxes.

I found a Spyderco Ambitious for a very good price at a UK online retailer, so that’s on the way to me.

Ticks all the boxes except the non-locking one, so I’m still looking for the perfect one.
