My New Colt Cobra Knife
on: September 23, 2008, 12:06:46 PM
I just came home from a three-day trip to Cebu City. I went to Solingen Store and I was able to buy a Colt Cobra knife. This is the exact size and type of folder I want. I scrutinized my new knife and all I can say is that it is made with a high degree of precision. It has a liner lock, pocket clip, aluminum scales type III anodized and its serration is laser cut.

Specs:
Closed Length: 4-1/2", Blade Length: 3-3/16", Blade Thickness: 1/8"

Does anyone here owned one and could comment?

Here are some pics I took at my hotel room immediately after I got my sweet knife.

I believed this knife is made by Solingen.

Solingen's version of the P-38. I also got this from Solingen store.

I've wondered about those type of serrations before, they claim it can be sharpened as plain edge but work like serrated edge, what do you think?

Yes, it can be sharpened as plain edge. I tried cutting a Manila rope with the serrated portion of the blade. Yes it cuts like a serrated knife.

I have to admit I have never seen this kind of serration before.  I like it because I can not sharpen a standard serration to save me life.  My only question is it looks like chipping is possible (kind of like a tooth breaking off) is this a legitimate concern?

This is my first time to have a knife with this type of serration and I think it is ok as long as we don't use the knife for chopping. In the first place, serrated knives main purpose is to cut ropes, belts and other fibrous materials.

I have to admit I have never seen this kind of serration before.  I like it because I can not sharpen a standard serration to save me life.  My only question is it looks like chipping is possible (kind of like a tooth breaking off) is this a legitimate concern?

Group buy on Solingen P-38s!!!!!  :D

I would hate to try to cut thread or monofilament with that laser-cut blade.

Of course Gene!

The Solingen "P-38" has one more use than the original P-38 because it has a bottle opener.

I have actually forgot about it for awhile!

Eddie, I think the Solingen store just carried items make from Solingen. It's not the brand, just where it's made.

LM123, if the knife was made in Solingen, Germany the "City of Blades" most probably Solingen cutlery made it.
