Many thanks, friend Rodia.  It would be very easy to put a ring through the plastic case and tie a shoestring or something in place of a watch chain.  Then again, I just might ask Santa to bring me a new watch.  I haven't asked for anything since I was about 7, so maybe he would pay attention if I wrote a letter.  I haven't been particularly good this year, but on the other hand I haven't been anywhere near as bad as I could have been.
Right now I have it propped up next to my computer.  Easy to see the time.  That is working pretty well.  My clock on my dresser quit working along with the kitchen wall clock, so the Casio (or my phone or computer) are about it for time keeping.  For now, anyway.  I am one of these people who know about what time it is without a clock.  If I wake up at night, I imagine what time it is.  I am generally within 30 minutes which is close enough.
Maybe the local Walmart will restock their watch counter.  Sure would be nice.  Best wishes.  Gary

That band had a good long life. :tu: I'll do some digging around and see if replacements can be found. Failing that, maybe Wally will restock his watch inventory, or a new watch will find some other way to make it to you. At least your old Casio is still in running order.

It lasted a long, long time.  One of the spring pins fell apart and I lost the other one, I think.  I might have thrown it in my box of junk watch parts.  There was a new F-91W in the W-Mart showcase.  Also one of the square types with a bigger display.  I don't remember the number.  I hope they get some more stuff.  Watches are popular Christmas gifts.  Especially lower cost ones like Walmart stocks.  Seems to me like they would want a big supply for holiday shopping.  Best wishes.  G

I am not wearing a watch today and it feels very odd.  Megan was still asleep when I got up this morning (as usual) and I didn't grab a watch on my way out of the bedroom.  I intended to grab one before I left but I completely forgot and now I am going to feel very weird all day because of it.

I did have my Fitbit on my other wrist and I swapped it to my left so it didn't feel so weird, but while it feels better, it still doesn't feel right.

OMG doesn’t it feel naked, I’ve got the Mrs to go for walks in the morning and just going for a walk without having the pockets loaded, no knife, no watch, and so on, it just feels so odd!

It's weird to go somewhere without a pocket knife or multitool.

It's just wrong to go out without a watch!   :ahhh

Here's the Fitbit by the way.  It's nice but it doesn't have the bulk that I'm used to.

Even my Luminox takes up space despite weighing next to nothing.

This weighs almost nothing and takes up almost no room.  To quote the Mythbusters, it's wrongity wrong.

Yeah it affected me more than I thought it would.  More than I want to admit that it did.  I tend to be pretty easy going on most things but I felt it spiraling in my head- the more I thought about it the more I HAD to think about it and I couldn't force myself to stop thinking about it.

Having spent a fair, and very enjoyable bit of yesterday afternoon, and this morning working through the settings, my new Casio AE-1200WHUB Royale is on my wrist.

Pictured also my much loved and abused MRW-200, brought back to life yesterday with its 4th or 5th new battery, and my late granda's Timex, which is my dress watch

I went to Wal-Mart yesterday, but wasn't able to get a photo of the Casio selection. It was decent...if you aren't looking for a G-Shock and don't have a preference for negative displays.

And here's a shot of the GD-400-1 more or less, sorta-kinda directly under a street light. The photo was only resized and "watermarked." You're seeing what my phone camera saw. I shoulda worn the DW-5600E so I could see if a positive display had significant advantages in residual glow from street lights.

In the little town I grew up in, everyone went to town on Saturday.  Old folks, women, kids, pretty much everyone.  One group of men would stand on the same corner of Main Street just across from the court house.  They were the watch traders.  They would gather and talk and tell tales.  Show their new watches and a pocket knife or ten.
At the center of this bunch of swindlers was an old man in his very late 80's.  Thad "Happy" Dowdle.  Hap was born sometime in the 1880's I suppose.  Always smiling.  With petit larceny in his heart.  Any newcomer would ask, "What kind of watch are you carrying today, Hap?"  He would reach out with one hand and slide back the sleeve on his 1920's wool suit coat and show you five or six wrist watches that he had on that arm.  There were more on the other.  Also, several pocket watches and some knives were in his vest or pants pockets.  My Dad would often pick up some sort of thing from Happy.  Dad didn't have a chance against this sharpie.
The others would have their stock either in their pockets, or maybe in a car parked close by.  Happy would make a dollar here and there.  He told me once that he swapped a knife for enough oil to clean up several more knives that he had.  That was when a can of 3 in 1 cost about 35 cents, so it probably wasn't much of a knife.  Hap wore the same ancient suit to our church on Sunday.  He would load his tiny waspy wife in their purple Ford and race the half mile to the church reaching speeds of almost 25 miles per hour.  On a good day.
Maybe that's what you need to do, Dan.  Wear three or four watches on one arm and cover them with your sleeve.  Might make a good photo.  Best wishes.  Gary

Maybe I'll do that one day. And I have to wonder if Hap going 25 MPH had to do with the state of the roads, the state of his old Ford, or his reluctance to go much faster.

I briefly had both of my G-Shocks on last night. Each was perfectly legible when bathed in the glow of the building's security light. Five paces to the west, each was barely legible, the DW-5600E having the edge on the GD-400-1. After another five paces, where I was at the southwest corner of the building and had a shadow being cast over me, neither would have been legible without the backlight. Granted, my methods aren't exactly scientific, and further testing may be needed. Yet I stand behind my assertion that a positive display's advantage in readability doesn't become significant unless ambient lighting is very dim. At least that's the way it's been working out for me.

I think the old man was more used to the gait of a horse.  The church was only about a half mile from his house, so it didn't take long at any rate.  Knowing the sharp tongue of his wife, I think it likely that she probably gave instructions about his driving too fast.  Likely with one hand braced on the dash and the other clinging on to those little straps that cars used to have.  Best wishes.  Gary

Finally got some more CASIO watches at W-Mart.  The dregs are still in the shelf display where you can pick one up.  Prices have been blacked out or scratched off.  The new shelf display is locked so you can't take one out and see if it fits.  No attendant there, so all you can do is press your nose to the display and lust.  I will show a photo or two.  Best wishes.  G

I wish the W-Mart displays had price tags and model numbers for the watches.  Otherwise, they are all 'who knows what' for 'no telling how much.' I forgot to see if they had any bands.
I saw one that looked like the model that friends rodia and kirk have.  The store was full of the last of the leaf lookers.  What a sullen, unhappy looking bunch of people.  If they are this ill-tempered on their vacations, what must they be like at home?
My sell-by date is coming up in a couple of days.  I had a little early birthday present to myself.  Some black-eyed peas.  Yum buddy.  Got out my sabre saw and hammer to do a little repair job.  Tomorrow might be a good winterize the Cub day.
Best wishes.  G

If the one at top left isn't a DW-5600E, it's a model that's extremely similar.

Sounds correct.  I think there might be a couple of DW9052 types as well.  Look like decent prices to me.  What do i know?  I was trying to get some med confusion straightened out this morning.  Maybe they will finally get some more price stickers put on.  I was down at the knife counter this morning and people were milling around waiting for someone to help them.  They were looking at ammo or something.  No such luck.  They finally just left.  There is never anyone at the watch and jewelry counter.
Best wishes.  G

DW-9052 and nobody around to help out at the sporting goods counter both sound about right. I think the oft-mentioned G-Shock I wore during WESTPAC 2006 was a DW-9052 type. Hope those issues with the meds were resolved...that's never fun.

I converted my Casio pocket watch back into an arm mounted module. Found an ancient band in a junk box. It was on a FW 91 lookalike. Hong Kong, I think. Looks like crap city, but the cost was right.  Best wishes. G

Nicely done! One day I might try making a watch band out of paracord. My Timex Expedition Acadia doesn't exactly have the best band in the world.

I thought about spray painting the band black.  Then, I figured it would still look crapulous.  The band is actually more comfy than it looks.  It has a weird latch on it.  Hard to use.  Best wishes.  G
