Newbie hello and....
on: December 09, 2016, 09:04:53 PM
hey

newly joined member, been enjoying looking through the archives

wanting to ask a question I thought I'd better say hi (from Lincoln UK)

I recently stumbled across an '83/85 golfer here at home but sadly cannot remember where it came from, I know I have another early knife kicking around in a (yet to be located) kit bag with an early awl (all (!) I can remember about it

it's lived in my pocket ever since and I keep finding uses for it

it's in pretty poor shape, the scales were covered in paint/glue/weird goo and the blade end have been ground to fashion another flat bladed screwdriver and one scale mount point is broken, so I thought I'd send it off for fettling at burton mccall

now the dilemma, knife in post is not knife in pocket

so I bought a new one, a climber - as you do, also bought the kids the same whilst I was shopping, both my son and daughter are engineers so reckon they will like them

I have an illness, I can't do with one, what if I need a saw, or a proper phillips? so I went a little mad

the first 16 have arrived scored at a tenner a piece delivered ranging from spartans to a ranger with a huntsman and fisherman in the mix - sweet!

I have been spending far too long trawling for new purchases and tracking down scales and cheap spares, found a GAK too for less then 10 quid and a 5 piece group from italy for less then £50, doing well so far

now the question:

I saw an advert for a traveller lite for £40 new, boxed and unused, couple of hours in the car later and in the grubby mitts, trouble is it's a 'distributed  by' burton mccall  box with "essential kit mountain rescue - victorinox" box, mainly black which shows a black traveller lite on the front with it scissors out and a more traditional red exploded image on the reverse

I've had a quick google and been on sakwiki (awesome!) without success

I have seen kits with black pouch, stone and compass/ruler but not sure if this is the same

would this kit not have 4.0517 pouch with access points?

thanks in advance

:)

my daughter has decent camera gear, I will get her to take some decent images over the holidays

I suspected the information would be hard to come by as I was unable to unearth anything using auntie google, I've just fired off an email to burton mccall

I purchased a midnight manager a few days back to reside on my keyring but when I opened the box it was just so shiny I couldn't bear to wear it, need a beat up one now!

a bit more digging around and found this:

http://schoener-leben.forum-lifestyle.com/allgemein/praktisch-fur-unterwegs-traveller-lite-von-victorinox/

can somebody tell me what pouch that is  EDIT: seems to be a 4.0520.32, the traveller kit has the pouch, compass and maglite, I think the 'lite' had a sharpening stone instead

reckon I will go for the maglite and the led is a little lacking

The "Lite" means there is an LED light IN the knife.

The kit with the sharpening stone is the "expedition kit"

And welcome!

yes, I understood the lite means the knife has the led light

I wondered if the pouch kit used a sharpening stone instead of a solitaire torch, the knife having the led

also, did the expedition kit have the compass/ruler of the compass/magnifier/thermometer?

:)

all I can add to this is welcome
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

thanks for the welcome everybody

I had a call from burton mccall today, the UK distributor, lovely lady but had trouble actually answering my questions and seemed to think I was angling for free stuff to replace any missing items which was not the case

I suspect any part number with an 'NP' suffix is a display box ID for use in the UK

I have seen a swiss champ advertised that has the same style box, the vendor tells me there are no accessories included, whilst this is not definitive it suggests a bigger display box for higher value items (?) that allows a decent sized branch view of the tools

It is probably due to the fact that it is in with your Google account  Cause the links are forbidden for me when I click on them
