Nice Link! Those new Damascus ones look great! These links are a sweet line of knives. Bunch of blades, handle materials, colors, and steel types to choose from! All USA made and staring at around $38 and up. What's not to like!?
According to this thread (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/669618-Kershaw-Damascus-Worth-It) Kershaw uses a Damascus mix of 52100, 203E, 5160 and 15N20 steels from Alabama Damascus Steel. 52100 is a low alloy steel with a high carbon content, making it less "stainless" than traditional stainless steel, but more corrosion resistant than plain carbon steels.5160 is a low carbon steel. 203E doesn't appear to be an official AISI designation, but seems to be a common Damascus steel additive. 15N20 is another alloy steel, but with a high Nickel content, which resists acid etching (this would be the shiny part of the Damascus). The pattern in the blade is revealed by acid etching, which makes the 5160, 52100 and 203E darker, while leaving the 15N20 shiny. In short, it would seem that as a knife steel, Kershaw's Damascus is perfectly serviceable, but compared to other steels that get similar "premium" prices, it probably falls short.
