I have a few other Wengers I haven't fully examined yet so I don't know the true condition of the scales but no Cyclists.  Haven't tried my hand at designing Wenger scales yet either.

You know, having an old Wenger like the one you own with the Penny Farthing bicycle on what's left of its scale would drive me crazy.  On the one hand, it would make a nice pocket knife.  Certainly unusual.  On the other, having half a busted handle would be frustrating.
Might be a good candidate for some new scales of some sort.  Wood.  Aluminum.  Who knows? Keep showing us some more interesting Wengers as you unpack.  Best wishes.  Gary

IMR Gary - Nice post.  When I was about 13, my cousin advised a Mitchell 300.  I loved that reel.  Somehow over the years it got away from me.  About 4 years ago, I was ready to buy a vintage M300, but, a friend at work advised I get a modern reel.  It just did not seem the same.

Wife and I are going out to enjoy today’s sunshine and this Camper is going with us.  She will have her Huntsman along in her “Kit”, just in case.

Hi Jeff,
I always called those knives a Camper, but Tony corrected me.  It is called a 'Teepee.'  I have an old Teepee somewhere.  Might have to dig it out for next week.  Best wishes.  G

It does have teepee scales and it is a camper.  3 layers, corkscrew, and saw, along with the usual other pieces.

Thanks for straightening that out, Jeff.  That Tony leads me down the primrose path sometimes. Teepee indeed.  Bad Tony.  Bad. Come to think of it, I might have posted a photo of something similar last week...?

I like to fun around some.  I don't take things too seriously.  I took a better look at the old Garcia ad and saw where you could get a little booklet for a quarter.  I have one of those somewhere.  In fact, I think I have a couple of different ones.  One is something by Lefty Kreh?  Both promos for Garcia Mitchell.  Best wishes.  G

I found one of the little promo booklets, so I took a photo.  Booklet is from 1968.  This Teep....er Camper is scuffed up more than the other one.  No box with it.  It does have the old fluted corkscrew however.  Thanks for the photos and comments everybody.  Best wishes.  G

I enjoy funning around too.  Sometimes I come  across to seriously.  Sorry I sounded to harsh.  It probably the engineer in me.  Both kids are engineers too.  Wife says she deserves sainthood being around the three of us.

Didn't sound harsh to me.  At all.  I looked at your link to see how much a Camper costs now.  Still a bargain.  Like most all SAKs.  I will be finishing up the 108mm challenge tomorrow, I think.  I might drop back and carry a Tinker for a few days.  I haven't signed up for anything else.  Thought about Reamer's fire challenge, but any contributions I could make to the event would just be boring.  Maybe I will do some outdoor cooking....?  Yeah.  Best wishes.  G

It's never boring with you around Gary.  Always bringing a smile to people's faces.  I used to show my wife your postings from the Minichamp challenge and she would get a kick out of them.  There's nothing boring about starting a fire as it usually gives food, warmth, and comfort.  Especially since it's still chilly.

Hopefully I will make another post on the Spartan Saturday Club weekly meeting.  Does anybody ever look at their profile and check to see their stats?  According to mine, I make most of my posts from 12 midnight until 1AM.  I assure you that I have never made a single post at those times.  Must be some other time zone like GMT or something.  Strange.
So dig out your Spartans and be back here Saturday.  There will be coffee and some of those dinky little donuts with the white powdery coating.  Yum.  Best wishes.  G

I believe this is a Wenger Security because of the locking blade though the blade says Backpacker on it.  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.  This one hasn't been cleaned or oiled yet so excuse the crud on it.

I think I would call that pretty Wenger an Adventurer.  Wenger had a whole line of outdoor oriented knives that they called the Backpacker series, or knives with a backpacker figure on the scales.  Individual knives in the series had different sorts of names.  I'm not sure that all the Eddie Bauer knives had that etch on the blade.  The Backpacker series from Wenger had the etch at one time.  Later Adventurer and other backpacker scale logo models didn't.  Adventurer was generally shown in the catalogs with a locking main blade and plain black scales.  One catalog says it has a clip point small blade, but the photo with it shows what looks like a nail file.  It is also called the Adventure.  Might be a typo or they may have shortened the name.  All have Wenger number 16836.
The Eddie Bauer people naturally ordered the knife with red scales and their company logo.  Probably asked for the Backpacker blade etch at the same time.  A nice one.  Best wishes.  G

Ah good to know as I wasn't too sure.  Do you know what distinguishes the Adventurer from the Security 14 besides the black scales that the Wiki speaks about?

I called the SAK an Adventurer because I took it to be a little older than the S14, or Security 14.  Wenger names are a little convoluted to begin with.  You also see the same tool set in Traveler with black or red scales and no lock.  There is also that same knife with no lock called a Classic 14.  Make some fancier scales and the same toolset it might be the Gawain.  Put on metal scales and there are a couple of different names for those.
I don't know when Bauer sold those knives.  S14 might have been a current name at that time.  If you like the name Security 14, by all means use it.  Eddie Bauer probably had their own name for it in their catalog.  Best wishes.  G

I believe this is a Wenger Serrated Traveler however, this one doesn't have any scale tools.

Mimosa is sort of an invasive here.  A large one (maybe 3 feet through at the trunk is down at the edge of my back yard.  Smaller ones are all around.  I never saw a yellow one.  Very pretty.  There are white ones within a couple of miles of my house.  Pale pink. And the ones near my house are brighter pink.  Some of them have flowers that stay a long time.  They don't last for months at my place.  Just a few weeks.  No leaves on them here yet, let alone flowers.
I cut up the most annoying parts of my downed mimosa, but the wood is exceedingly hard to cut.  As long as I can drive under the limbs with a lawnmower, I don't care much.   Best wishes.  G

Happy Three Layer Thursday.  Photo is a Camper with bagels.  I'm planning a bigger lunch to make up for such a scanty breakfast.  I notice that I did get some bagel flour on the Camper.  Bad IMR.  Bad.  Best wishes.  G

I bought one today.

Local shop had all kinds of knives ranging in quality and age; with prices ranging from far below market value to well, insane. This one was $15.

SwissBuck Trekker.   Probably will be putting this one away, since my Camper is really better, and this one doesn't look to have been used much (though it was a gunky, grimy mess when I started with it).
