Slightly off topic, but I don't like those 'distressed' look guitars. It seems to be part of a trend nowadays to look like you've put in the hours without putting in the hours. My Thinline Tele looked like it had been played for twenty years because I played it for twenty years. It told a story. Specially the story of how it's always best to have a stand and not lean it up against the wall.

Me too. I think it's silly, and waaaay too expensive. I don't really care for the look either. If I own a guitar for 20 years it doesn't look that bad.  BUT...I do find myself wanting to buy a SAK that's already got character. I guess it's cheating.

I remember when my friend got his Harley and it was filthy. He said he dug the grimey look. I said that's cool but you need to fully clean it and then put your OWN grime on it.

Yet again...I'd buy a pre-worn alox...

So red is starting to edge a lead, you paying attention Victorinox  :D

And orange and silver are tied. I actually really like orange too, I like the color in general, goes well with olive drab which is another favorite color.

Looks like no one wants brown or yellow

Am quite surprised see orange so popular TBH! I was expecting black to be the one behind red and silver...

Impossible to choose only 1. Blue always grabs my eye in all things. BUT I think silver, red and black should be the 3 colors. Its like when Lego started adding more colors in the mid 80s...ok yeah cool, but now there's a million colors and that iconic limited pallette or color story is kind of gone.

For carry the non-wearing silver makes sense, but for pure looks blue is great.

Very much reminds me of discussions I've been involved with about mint vs "rat look" VW camper vans, both can look great, but there's cool "rat look" and then there's just looking knackered. I think the below shows the former!

What an interesting debate and views coming out here.....

However as far as the vote is concerned - I will abstain - because even though ..... I don't collect alox;)  :D
- I do love the alox collections we see here on our forum and elsewhere and would hate them to go away.

As for my views:
  • I do agree with the majority here in that red is the Vic colour - No debate - And I think this applies almost as much to alox as it does to Cellidor
  • Having said that - The silver alox SAKs are great for their toughness, durability and wearability - Got an Electrician in my tool box - Love it and use it!
  • Having said that - I really, really like the worn coloured alox look
  • Having said that - I really, really like the totally pristine unused alox collections
Am I being a bit non-committal? ???  ;)

Also interested in a few views in the thread:
  • 50' and Mags hate the feel of the regular alox SAK - How strange!!  ;)  :)
  • Was fascinated that Mooweasel has almost no red SAKs in his possession - How is that even possible?? ???
  • Worn/distressed look - I agree Mags - I like the look - But only if it is genuine - The worst offender here for me is jeans - Why pay extra bucks for a hole in your jeans? - I can do that myself, thanks
  • And if I do buy a worn alox on evil bay, even though it was not me making the worn look, I don't have a problem with that - As it has seen good service. ..... My other half, BTW, only likes the pristine look - and got a bit upset the other day when I badly scratched a SAK she gave me as a pressie  :o ....  And here we get into the shelf queen vs user debate !!

I voted orange, but I love the bright greens also. I dislike basic "stock" colours, I have a couple of silver alox, electrician and a '74 soldier , all my other alox is coloured.
Even on my non alox knives, I think I only have one or two in red.

Are your coloured Alox knives all "users" or just collectors pieces, though?

I actually prefer the "stock" colours of red or black for even the cellidor models on the whole! It's a classic look.

A little bit of column A, a little bit of column B, The 74 Wenger will probably never see pocket time, the electrician certainly has, as has the orange farmer. And the black pioneers.

[/li][li]Was fascinated that Mooweasel has almost no red SAKs in his possession - How is that even possible?? ???

Turns out I have three reds, Laser, Waiter, Rucksack.
Absent is a Spaceman classic, doing duty with the visiting Mother in Law, MIA my forest green cybertool, RIP.

Amici,
I prefer black for my Alox. Reason being, is that I like how the color makes it low key and not an attention getter as some of the other colors seem to do. Outta sight, outta mind.. Especially when it pertains to the run of the mill sheeple who seem to fear anything folding no matter what color.

Cheers,
Serge

I voted other. I've never seen a color I didn't like. Spice of life I guess. They all do what they were intended to do. A pristine SAK is a wasted SAK. No fun just sitting them on a shelf and staring at it. Not trying to offend the collectors here. Truth is I've only bought two that were new. Mainly because I'm cheap, but mostly the used ones I bought had plenty of life left in them.

I'd have to go with red -mine stay in dedicated knife pockets so they dont get too beaten up. Personally, I dont think red, copper or orange would look too bad with minor wear.
