What's the worst SAK?

It is ugly BUT useful

I was quite keen on getting one, so I read a lot about it... what put me off is the wrenches only fit specific climbing gear from a certain company and are useless for most nuts-n-bolts. And the fact that the scales are not solid Ti as you'd expect, but Ti glued onto a lesser metal is ridiculous, considering the price.

The Climber, one of, if not the most popular model. It seems so nice, but the scissors create a really annoying hotspot in my hand when using the large blade with a firm grip. (With thicker SAKs with scissors, the hotspot is gone, as the thicker body moves the fingers around.) What use is a knife where the large blade is uncomfortable to use?

With SAKs, both “best” and “worst” will quickly become extremely individual.

I like most wenger solutions. Can't really say most bad sak. Most vics are quite much same. Which is bad. Very small amount of models where example nail file instead of small blade. Also cybertool seems vanished. So maybe most bad sak is most common mass product (as there is no variety of features available). Only most basic. That will mean huge mass production of most basic and common sak. Seems others are making more changes and different models.

Honest answer? OK, most the 85mm Wengers feel like knockoffs in my hands. Scales have a funky feel and the F&F just aren't there.

Hands down it's the cigar tool. Only good for cigar smokers for 3 seconds, a drug cartel member looking to chop a finger off, and maybe if you have to have everything for a collection, but I would take any Vic previously listed over this thing

I have to agree, what the heck was Wenger thinking with that thing? Funny bit is, that they still seem to be superfluous enough on the market as that their prices have not really gone through the roof in recent years..

However, it is kinda cool in an ugly sorta way..

I hate to say it but I feel the same way about most (recent) Wengers (never had an older, pre-90's one) :-/

I do appreciate almost all the patterns

That said, I find my least carried SAKs are the patterns that are more than 3 layers thick

That would be true of any brand however

But that is a personal preference

And yeah the title post could have been worded differently

Anything with a combo tool.  If I have to pick just one, the Compact.

Jk... Personally I'm a big fan of both the combo tool as well as the Compact.   Just wondering what is the major gripe ? Lack of Phillips capability?  Btw the combo tool works awesome as a can opener when you work backwards...


As far as the "worst" SAK... I must say my least favorite in my collection is the pocket pal... Just because lack of tools, but it's still a pretty cool knife, especially for whittling.

The combo tool cripples the knife in so many ways.  You lose the separate openers and a robust pry tool.  You lose the scalpel-like small blade.  You lose the awl.  The knife does get a little smaller, it does work on phillips screws and the combo tool is a slightly better cap lifter but they don't make up for the loss of function IMO.

Valid points made.  I find myself reaching for the Climber II more often than my Compact these days.

My worst knife is a Mikov CAK with fork (Dutch joke  ) Actually, it's quite good.

To be honest the only thing that could be considered as less than ideal are the one hand opening single blade knives.   
In my opinion of course.
