When I bought this for $92, my fault for paying too much without box, but I loved it.
It was almost pristine when it arrived.  After a few years in a controlled temperature environment, I picked it up only to find the back scale is discoloring and the brass (?) logo is tarnished.
I know this is an issue with some from this age range, and I'm not sure what to do.  Keep it, sell it, trade it.  I don't think putting a different back scale on it is a good idea because newer ones wouldn't match, although I know they most likely wouldn't disintegrate.

Ideas?   :dunno:
Let me know your thoughts.  Thank you.  :hatsoff:

Front scale is almost new:

Starting to discolor and will soon disintegrate I'm afraid:

This is the funny thing. I had a celluloid handled Buck Creek that was my great-uncle's. He'd gotten it as an anniversary present from his wife in the 1990s; and carried it a lot. He'd accidentally left it in an old Jeep he sold to his brother (my Granddad). My Granddad had it just laying on the top of a gun cabinet for ages, and then I got a hold of it. I carried it regularly, and when not carrying it, I kept it in a bookcase. I later put it in the drawer cart a lot of my knives are stored in, and it was laying on that foam rubber perforated shelf-liner. After only about a month, it started to discolor and outgass. Smelled like mothballs--that meant I had to strip the scales off.   My advice is to leave it out in the open and watch it.

I did have this laying on some mat material in a drawer!  I no longer have that material.  That is probably the culprit!
