Are you doing anything (small) to save money during your day?

How many of you here have changed something in your everyday life to save some money?

I started taking coffee to work in my (30 year old!) Thermos instead of spending $2.50 on an XLarge coffee at Dunkin' Donuts.  So I'm saving roughly $12.50 a week on coffee, and probably a few more bucks on fuel since I'm not waiting in the drive through line >:(

Actually, I like my homemade coffee better!  I should have started doing this years ago!

The big red Thermos brand thermos was my grandfathers from the 1970's...when he died in 1986 it found it's way to my father and it became our fishing trip thermos..now it's in action as my work thermos!

To recap;

$12.50 a week

x52 weeks in a year = $650 bucks!!!

I'm probably spending a small fraction of that on making my own...

I have started to bring my lunch instead of buying at work or going out. I figure at the minimum I spend $5 a day so if you figure that into $25 a week x 52 given the cost of what I pack I am saving around $900 a year

Sometimes I pretend to be thrifty, with homemade lunches, economic driving, & wearing underpants until the arse disintegrates, but then I figure, money is no good to me in the bank, so I eat fancy burgers, rev like a bogan, and buy swish sports undies with functional fly!

So - yes, I do small things to save money, but then I ruin it all with moments of weakness.

I'm quite a tight git, so when it comes to day to day money spending I'm pretty much on the minimum I can spend.

We're going to the super cheap grocery stores, we don't eat out, we're buying generic everything, buying the super duper cheap smokes and even making my own too. Got the thermostat way down so it gets quite cool in the house at night.

I'd like to say I've quit buying SAKs but that would be a lie, I'm weak  :-[   I have started to thin my collection a bit though.  I was gong to be good and put all the funds into our budget account but... I'm weak  :-[  I'm doing OK with the 50% goes to the budget account and half to the SAK fund though :)

Day to day I have started "driving for economy", watching how much hot water I'm heating and like many others putting an extra layer on rather than the heating.  My eldest has recently started school, after a term of school diners at £1.85 a day (that I don't think he was too fund of anyway  ::) ) he's now on packed lunch.

I'm getting my hair cut every 7 weeks instead of every four :D

On a positive note my wife just got a pay rise.... that almost exactly covers the increase in our mortgage now we've come out of fixed term  ::) You gotta laugh :D

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

My wife and I are doing a few things to save money everyday:

1. We both make lunches to bring to work.  Even if you do go out to lunch and pay no more than three dollars a day, it adds up.  i also bring my own coffee into work instead of buying it.

2. We only go out to eat on special occasions and make our meals at home.  We also make meals that will last a few days.

3. If we do go to the movies, we catch the earliest matinee show which is about half the cost of the normal ticket and we also bring in our own goodies.

I have. I've done some trading but as far as buying it's been several months.

I stopped watching tv, no more cable bills. You can find almost all the shows (legally) now online.

Using your local public library is a great way to save money. Not only you can check out books and magazines, but nowadays their collections include the latest CDs and DVD's, you can also download material from their website. All of these free of charge.

I also pay most of my bills online, no more stamps and trips to the post office and to the bank.
