Here is an interesting one...

This is a very cool model! Honestly, a OHO version of this without the saw and with the Skipper Pro marlinspike would be practically my perfect 111. Although, I don't like the fact that it's a choice between the full-size cap lifter and the small gutting blade. If there were a way to get both of those in the same tool I'd jump on it. So, a full-size cap lifter, a small gutting blade, a OHO blade edge, and a Skipper Pro marlinspike (or maybe just a regular marlinspike — the Skipper Pro one adds a lot of width...). I don't think I appreciated the 111s enough but I'm really starting to love them. I don't own any of the 130mm models (yet), so the 111s are the largest I have with the exception of the Hunter Pro. Here's a photo of the width of the Pro marlinspike.

Wow - That marlin spike is a brute - And I had forgotten that it is liner-locking -
Although for that width and type of likely heavy usage - It would have to be
- And of course the Wiki is correct!!   ;)  :tu:

That therefore makes three locking tools: Blade, Spike, Screwdriver - Which must be quite unusual

Yeah, three out of the four frontside tools on this monster lock — three of five in total (since there's only the one backside tool, an awl). Honestly, I've been trying to think of a way that it would be possible to put the large marlinspike on the back of the tool. I'm sure there must be a way, but since it actually has three(!) backsprings, I'm not entirely sure whether it'd be possible. I really like it, though. It actually works very well as an icepick. The only issue with it is that the taper is actually so aggressive that it doesn't exactly do a great job untying knots made of thinner string; e.g. it doesn't work well for untying paracord knots. But then again it's been my experience that the standard marlinspike also doesn't do a great job at that. The best I've found is the scale marlinspike/sacking needle on certain alox models (like the Seaman, for example) or actually just the corkscrew — which is another reason I prefer the corkscrew to the backside philips.

Meet the British Army Knife made in the steel town of Sheffield in Yorkshire, UK.
This one has a 1943 tang stamp
The spike uses two springs and is about 9mm wide

Barry, it certainly is a beast of a marlinspike. And Huntsman, that is actually so cool. I knew that there were English army knives that had marlinspikes but I absolutely love the shape of that blade. I have a few straight razors from Sheffield; I know that at one point some of the best steel items in the world came out of Sheffield. Does that one have a specific name?

Yep - Pretty sure it is called a British Army Knife!!    :pok:

Just like the so-called Soldier is called a Swiss Army Knife!

I don't think Sheffield ever manufactured the massive variety of Officer's Knives - like those that Victorinox branched out into.

If you dig around MTo - You may well find some threads on these knives

PS. Firstly, curious as to why you would want to do this?   ???

Secondly - It would be very hard on the Victorinox - You would have to completely redesign the frame, the springs, probably the rivets and the liners, plus the lock  - So basically you would build the BrAK!!   :pok:    :tu:

Honestly, I mainly wanted it to be more akin to the shape of that British Army knife you posted. The large marlinspike is just so huge that it makes the entire body extremely wide for the number of tools it contains. And since there's only the awl on the back, I figured that it would potentially even allow for a saw/file/something else on the front side. I just thought it would make it a much sleeker tool. You know those really early prototype SAKs with the enormous parcel hook thingy on the back? I figured it would be something like that. So, in nuce what I wanted was to put it on the back so that it would be thinner, and so that an extra tool could be added, whilst maintaining the same width. I hope that makes sense.

Ah - OK - I see where you are coming from now
Basically you want a narrower SAK - maybe just the width of the marlin spike.
Well it's not going to happen on the Vic, for reasons above!

But I have another one for you - It's a BAK design - But no tang or scale markings at all
I bought it within the last few years - I think from eBay - TBH - Not 100% sure how I came by (bay? ;)) it!!

The SAK is a Waiter - So it's bit longer than the Waiter - Probably 91mm++ And more if you include the liner integrated SD - Same height as the Waiter - But obviously a lot wider.

That is a nice one! It's interesting to me that they all seem to have wharncliffe-y blades... I wonder whether that's a ship thing?
