Nice mod!

I’m surprised that it doesn’t qualify for the hacker badge

It does,  Max already has the Hacker badge. He was requesting the Advanced modder badge.

What about adding layers to a sak? I guess there’s got to be a lot of pics?

I’m thinking of a 3-layer Stinker X with scissors. There are some good mod threads on adding 91mm scissors to the 84mm frame.

I’m currently working on a Wenger model but adding two layers one including a rare tool to it,
I stripped the sak down and put it back together including the extra tools and it now sits on temperature pins, still works!

Sounds good! Look forward to seeing the rare tool.

I’m not getting my head around these (semi) permanent peened pins. I can see myself making some custom scales and threading some pins with a die so I can use nuts to have a SAK that I can disassemble a little easier for trying different configurations, etc.  :dunno:

JR, If I’m not mistaken Wenger uses 2.5mm pins... Think you can find them brass pins / brass welding rods from your local hardware store...

By machining, welding or cutting original design to accept new tool loads.

 I don't think I've seen this done before. In-line awl in an 84mm frame.  He did have to machine and cut to make it fit in there and work.  ???

I've got some 'weird' stuff planned to qualify for this badge...and now I'm not so sure.  :-\

Maybe there should be one more badge in the middle...Max's knife wasn't just a take apart and put back together job.

Yes 2.5, the only way I’ve found it is in a kit of 2-8mm, unless if threaded or in titanium..

Thanks kamakiri.  :hatsoff:

Yes, quite a bit of grinding and cutting work to the awl tool to get it to fit. It’s a good outcome and I believe a unique build (not seen one elsewhere).  :dunno:

But it does seem like we’re missing a badge between a hacker and advanced modder.

2.5mm is relatively easy to find. It’s the 2.2mm that’s rare.

I found it, just 4pieces of the 2.5, and cheap, but the shipping is 4X the price of the item!

MadP, try your local hobby shop. Common for use in train layouts, scratch building, RC aircraft, etc.

Maybe 'Level 2' Hacker?  Maybe even a 'Scale re-user' too.  I know it's not easy re-attaching scales without needing/using any adhesive.  Good work on that too. :tu:

You guys are way overthinking the badges.

Hacker covers the majority of tool changing.
Everything from a simple grind change to the more unique builds like Max just made.

The advanced badge was created to recognize the efforts of our bar lifters.
One doesn't go after this badge, it comes looking for you.
No one trick ponies here, you'll need to tick multiple boxes.
Work is reviewed and discussed in depth backstage before any decision is made.

IMO hacker and user are where it is at.
You have a need, you modify something to work and then you use it as needed.
Complex mods that others can't duplicate... pass.
Too pretty to use... pass.
So expensive you had to trade body parts for the materials... no thanks.
A simple mod, one that adds functionality, which gets use - yes please I'll take two of them.

That’s the only place I’ve found it, my only problem is there’s non around here and neither my wife or I drive, so we’re kinda restricted..
