Im glad I bought a couple of them a few years ago when they supplied one of the major hardware stores here. They where really good axes at a good price.

At least we know that Wetterlings Forge will continue on but it is sad that there will be no more made in that name :-\ Wonder if they will keep some of the designs (like the Les Stroud axe) and just rebrand them  Hopefully with both Forges putting out the same axes we will see a price drop :D I do doubt that though  :D

Very much a Victorinox/Wenger state of play isn't it?  One of my favourite small hatchets is one of their budget options from a few years ago.

I really hope we don't see some of their more unique offerings go.  Especially given that I suspect a Gransfors Bruk Les Stroud will sell better than a Wetterlings Les Stroud. ::)

Those pics really don't show the scale of the little Wetterling.

Here it is (in the middle) next to a typlcal cheap hardware store hatchet and a Vaughn Mini hatchet.

While it might appear similar in size to the tiny Vaughn, the head is in fact a lot more stout and has enough mass to chop and split.

Oh, and this news has me seriously looking at the Wetterlings Bushman (the Les Stroud axe).  Cheers for putting that thought in my head Poncho, you might have just cost me £95. ::)

If I hadn't found out about the takeover here I would have been blissfully unaware of it.

I'm a bit pissed off about this, another company with a long history gone, I don't think Wetterings really advertised much in the UK and as for GB! Yes people rave about them but they are very expensive and mostly out of stock at all the places that sell them in the UK. I think that's why I like the Hultafors so much.

I don't need one either as I have a GB Small Forest Axe, but I think the Bushman is different enough that I'll use it.

I honestly don't think buying one is a bad plan, once Wetterlings is "gone" these will either disappear completely or jump in price once it's got GB stamped on the side.  I'm slightly put out by GB as their prices have jumped a LOT in the last 12 years and that's surely based on what they think they can get away with (due to their worldwide popularity) rather than any significant rise in manufacturing overheads or whatever.

I think this is a problem of their success and dedication to their manufacturing process.  It's also why I suspect we'll see (at least) all the similar Wetterlings models disappear in favour of the GB equivalents, now also being made in the Wetterlings factory.  Just a guess, but I think it's a good one.

I got an email earlier today, telling me that he was out of town, and would not be able to process the order until tuesday next week, and that he was low on stock before going. He also had a lot of orders lately, so he was not sure if he had enough...
Also the shipping price was wrong, so that would increase as well.
Time will show if I actually get one or not.
