I got the thing from our friend Dan.  It was made about '92, maybe.  There is a small brass spacer next to a liner since the small blade is a little thinner than the large blade.  No locking nub on the screwdriver.  Needed just a little clean up.  It came in a little Victorinox tin box.  The Tinker is in my pocket right now.  Best wishes.  G

Got new translucent red scales for my old pre hook Super Tinker. My wife asked what I wanted for my birthday and as I had never seen Airwolf I asked for the complete series so that's my current watch these days.

TINKER TUESDAY ?
That is TODAY!

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Arrived last week, a DLT exclusive, blue digital camo!

If not so busy, considered ordering a 2nd one and move scales to a SPARTAN.   ALSO, resisting an ORANGE camo…

That's my Dad's old Tinker.  My sister bought two black Tinkers in Switzerland for Dad and me.  He didn't carry his for a while.  Then he laid aside his CASE 6347 and started carrying the Tinker.  One of his favorite things was to go out in our big table garden and pull an onion.  Then he would peel it with the knife and crunch it.  I always raised strong tasting yellow onions.  I want an onion to taste like onion, not an apple.
He hated the keyring and nub, so I had to cut them off with a Dremel.  I had never seen a 91mm Tinker in a catalog before, and certainly not a black one.  Best wishes.  G

There's just something about a SAK without the keyring/nub that's so satisfying. If I were more adept with power tools I'd remove many of my keyrings/nubs. Plus it's always cool to hear stories about the SAKs!

Recruit, Cadet Alox, Bantam, Bantam Alox, Waiter, and Sportsman are the last listed 84mm.  Don't know if all of those will be in the next Vic catalog.  The Tinker Small was discontinued a couple of years ago and taken out of the catalogs along with all the 85mm Evos.  Discontinued doesn't mean that there aren't some still available out of unsold old stock.  Best wishes.  G

I became introduced to the 84mm line in the “tween challenge” that SOS24 (iirc) hosted in 2024!

I very much enjoyed carrying that size the entire month, using my small TINKER and SWISS BUCKs and occasionally my RECRUIT.   Oh yes a POCKET PAL.

Then during a MacGyver event, I did a deep dive, learning about the TOURIST, Wenger’s TRAVELER, and my new favorite the SPORTSMAN.   Now this month getting to know the CADET.

And, just about forgot my EVO 10, the 14, and EVO 111(?) (locking blade model.

Personally, I think the decision makers at VIC have lost their mind, leaving great models along the curb just because the 84mm was a WENGER standard.

Now, I need to search for reasonably priced CLIMBER small.   Too bad 84mm replacement new scales are not that common if even an item.    another rabbit hole I have stumbled upon…

LC, my biggest issue with the 84mm scales is that there actually don't seem to be any plus scales that were ever produced for that size model, unfortunately. If there were I'd jump on them to make a 'Waiter Plus Small' (since I don't think I'll ever find a Waiter Plus — effectively a production 91mm Waiter with plus scales), so I figured I'd try to make myself one, but alas they don't make 84mm plus scales .

I do not get excited about plus scales.

The pen is a novelty in my opinion!

I did install plus scales (3rd party) on a SE
SPARTAN.

And a COMPANION, COMPACT, and SWISS CHAMP
each arrived with the ink pen.

The 84mm models are a nice size for pocket carry, and provides functional use even with my XXL size hands.

The SPORTSMAN is my first choice for full on business function.

And EVO10 and the 14 are choices that are within reach on my end tables.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

That's fair — the Vic pen isn't for everyone. For me having a pen is paramount; I'm always writing notes, writing ideas for my dissertation, changing students' grades on their tests, etc. So, for me personally I never leave the house without a pen and one is absolutely integral to my EDC rotation. Having said that, the Vic pen is always a backup pen for me. But I would say at least twice a week I find myself using the Vic pen, which makes it a very valuable addition for me personally, which consequently makes the plus scales extremely valuable to me.

Looks like all of the 84mm knives that I mentioned are still in the 2026 Vic catalog.  I did forget to mention the My First Victorinox 84mm knives that have the rounded off large blade.  They are still in the new catalog as well.

I checked, one of my newer SPORTSMAN does, as well as a WAITER.

THE SMALLL TINKER is older and does not.
