I have just spent most of today clearing out my loft/attic this involved cutting down rolls of hessian carpet ,stripping down old heaters  and taking an old lawn mower to bits  and I managed the lot with my Swiss champ and a little thought .It goes to show what you can manage if you try

That's cool Jock.  I have 2 "champs", a real one, and the Davechamp CX+

Now, whilst I kind of like them (I do EDC one in my man bag), the only thing I ever use on it is the tooth pick. I have used the magnifying glass a couple of times whilst removing splinters (with a Micra), but in general the Swisschamp annoys me a bit.

I say annoy, because whilst it's packed with tools, it seems to be neither a "pocket" tool, or a full-sized multi. It's kind of a master of neither.

By the time a SAK gets to be the size of the Swisschamp - it is IMO competing with full sized tools, or at very least the Juice series. Despite being bigger than the Juice Pro or XE6, it offers surprisingly few extra functions.

Yet - I still carry the Swisschamp around with me 

Whilst writing this - I have decided that it requires further consideration - look out for a new topic in the near future

I own one from a member here, bought a nice leather sheath and everything, but have never EDCed it!

Me too.  The CT41 is the one "large" SAK model that has all of the tools I use, and no extras.  That bit driver is something that everyone should try.  It's a first-rate tool, and the on-board storage of the bits makes "complete" without having to have accessories.

Yes there big and bulky (relatively speaking) but there just so useful! and best of all (and this really won't apply to countries other than the UK probably) the totally sheeple friendly!, there not even percieved as a knife, which is a real boon if you work in a school or with the public

I have never had hands on the cybertool but sounds good although I think I must be one of the few who has made use of the fish scaler as a ruler and the magnifier has proved too useful for first aid duty to give up

I love my Cybertool 34 BUT.... there always is one, eh? ...  I wish it had a wood saw. I know the CT41 has the saw but it's too big for pocket EDC carry, which I'm starting to like, and I don't need the 41's other implements. I'm thinking of trying my first SAK mod. Removing the can opener (the awl might do that job), swapping the bottle opener(beer!  ) with the small knife blade (if it'll fit) and putting a wood saw where the bottle and can opener used to be. Should I go for it?

 If you think you can do it,go for it.I long wondered why a saw and file weren't on all sizes of the Cybertool.If you feel the need for an opener(can't deprive a man of beer ),slip an Alox Bantam in your pocket if you don't mind the combo tool.

I think the bottle opener will be to thick to fit where the small blade sits, but you can always use a combo tool.  Then you could still open cans as well.  It sounds like a great mod, go for it.

You're going to have to use a combo tool in place of the little blade.  As Gareth says, the bottle opener is too thick and its crimped the wrong way.  Victorinox used to make a can opener that could fit there but that was years ago and the knives that have them are serious collectables.

Other than that, get hammering

Thanks for that, Neil. Glad to know before I cracked the CT open. I may try the can opener instead. To the secret engineering lair!  OK, I mean basement.       PS, I'm going to start a new thread with a question I have related to this...
