Red Becon 464 Scoutmaster hatchet

EBay purchase German hatchet
Made up a wedge that tapered towards the top due to the larger gap at the bottom
Currently the handle end is sitting in a cup of linseed oil and the wedge and handle gets a topical treatment every so often

It had about a 1/8 inch thick "EDGE", but I've given it a bit of flap disc shaping to give it something resembling a sharp edge. Probably needs some file work and stones to hone it up. Still in progress of moving house, so haven't done anything with it since

That was a thick "edge". A belt sander might help with that one

Actually 1/8 probably a bit too much. At least a sixteenth or a bit more. The flap disc on the angle grinder is my version of the belt sander. It can take a decent amount of material off. I go slow and make sure it isn't getting hot

Before, and after about 15 minutes with a Stone. Cuts ok, I think the handle has moved slightly after chopping into this dead tree. Feels good though

Cheers chaps  :hatsoff:

That's my new back yard :tu:

I need to make a strop to polish up. Might still need a touch up in the middle of the edge too
