Just saw No. 08 Stainless with Olive wood handle for $24.18 on the big river site.  Other exotic woods on sale as well for sizes 6, 8, 9.  Best wishes.  G

Do you have any opinion about the non-locking blade on a No. 5?  Naturally there is no factory alternative.  Would you like a lock better?  Best wishes.  G

Not at all Gary.  It's not a loose blade, as you know how Opinels get.  As long as you keep pressure on the back and not use it to poke at something it works well.  Picasso used a No 5 to carve with and it looks like he did pretty well without the lock.

I'm not a long time Opinel owner.  However, I have used slip joint knives my whole life and never thought too much about it.
I did manage to charge the battery on my Cub and mow some.  Changed the oil and serviced the air filter.  Cleaned up the weed wacker a little and ran it a while.  Hot here and dry as a bleached bone.  Best wishes.  Gary

My oldest got our yard mowed yesterday.  It's been in the low 80's here and some thunderstorms.  I think it's going to be a wet Spring!

Out for a walk before teaming up with the Rebar to assemble a veg trug (raised bed planter) for my wife.  That blade acts like a grip when turning the body as a screwdriver.

I think Barry meant that the closed blade adds to the gripping power when using the tool as a screwdriver.  That is how I understood it.  Nice photos.  I like raised bed gardening.  I liked to use cold frames to extend my growing season.  Very handy to plant a fall garden for Simpson leaf lettuce or something like mustard.  Some people don't like mustard.  I'm not sure why.
It doesn't make much sense to plant a garden when there is only one person.  I love fresh vegetables, but it is just easier to buy something.  Consequently, I just quit gardening.  Don't even plant a flower.  The raccoons and deer about shut me down anyway.  Best wishes.  G

That's it Gary!  I just reread what I wrote   I agree with you about gardening.  We're mainly down to just the two of us these days and our garden keeps getting smaller.  I remember working gardens as a boy.  They were huge, but they were for a bunch of people.

Lovely morning for a walk.  Cool, but no wind.  I took along an Opi.  My pole trimmer had a hard time cutting some small limbs.  Need to touch up the blade a little.  On the pole thingie, not the Opi.  Best wishes.  G

That didn't take too long. Found a little pocket sized carborundum that my Dad carried. Just the right size.  He called it a whet rock. Best wishes. G

A No7 handle is attacked to small beak style blade. I call it a scoring knife.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Opinel names it a Chestnut & Garlic knife.

Using a miter saw this after noon to prep some lumber for a frame.  Will try some scoring then.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!
