Guys, please tell me one of you knows which country this is from. Bought on the Bay from a seller that doesn't typically sell SAKs. Came in mint condition in the box with international model #0.8610.26. All the other LE final runs (that look identical to this ) I've seen from France come with the new 111mm Soldier Model in a special, bigger box with both knives.

Help.

Now that i received my 3rd Soldier i can show them all.
108mm GAK, 111mm OHO GAK (still bot dissapointed that someone tought it was great idea to remove serration and now blade looks so small)
And 111mm 08 Soldier (16 stamped on tang)

Wow, Antti - that’s some severe work on the blade, but I’m sure it’ll still work fine as Echotech has said.

As BYSAK babies go, I'm super fortunate to have been born in 1965 as there are so many Model 1961's available today from both Vx and Wenger.   I picked this one up the other day for very reasonable money and have been carrying it every day since it arrived from Switzerland.

This thread deserves a bump!  :climber:

I just love the Soldier model, especially the '61 Alox model. Here's my collection - the Alox ones are all in new condition except the 73 Elsener and the 88 Wenger. I have another 111mm 2023 model that I keep stored in a box to give it to my son for his 30th or 40th birthday. That's a couple of years to go  :D

Still looking for a red early 60s model,  but they get increasingly hard to find. There's a superb one on eBay right now but it's close to 300 EUR including shipping. Still can't get myself to spend that kind of money...

Love those Alox Soldiers, currently carrying a 1994 Wenger Alox Soldier.

I've lost a few, found a few, but this is the one I routinely carry in my pocket, since some time in the 90's when a slightly nicer one (with pliers and a proper Phillips screwdriver) was stolen out of a gym locker. I got this one, and it's been my default army ever since.  In this form it's valueless but indestructible and immune to harm from any untoward use.

Apologies here for not being tuned to the terminology and either not knowing or conveniently forgetting that a "soldier" in this case is an actual model, which my trusty SAK obviously is not, being a step up the army hierarchy.  I did once have a red Wenger that I think was a soldier but lost it.  the closest I can come now is a Wenger with a nail file in place of the awl, and awl and corkscrew on the back. I guess this one is for the twee modern soldiers who like to keep their nails trim while they sit in their alpine retreats sipping their wine.

You’re right not a soldier but a fine and well used old Wenger nonetheless :tu:

It's not a Soldier in name, but it definitely has a battle-hardened look to it! Does it have a Phillips or a corkscrew in the back layer?

Unfortunately a corkscrew, and no proper Phillips.  But I really wanted the pliers, and the back mounted driver doesn't give much torque anyway.  So instead for easy turning Phillips screws I usually use the can opener, since I rarely need to open cans.  By the way, this one is a Victorinox, not a Wenger.  I had (and may still have but can't find) a Wenger with little slip-joint pliers, which in an ideal world would be nicer than these, but in the real world tended not to grip as tightly.

Unfortunately a corkscrew, and no proper Phillips.
I wouldn't say that's unfortunate. Assuming the main layer tools are just blades, openers, scissors, and pliers, you have a Deluxe Climber. That's a model that has been out of production for a while.
