I have two Stayglow Climbers left - a user and one in an unopened box, both from the days when they were in the ballpark of of $25. REEEEEEEEEALLY wrestling with the urge to yank a pair of scales and make a Stayglow Serrated Spartan...

Edit: ooops...kinda confused two different threads. Oh well.

no prob,  I carry a serrated Spartan- Weekender for Spartan Saturday, that would be an interesting one!
The SG Climber, do I consider kinda collectable? I'm easy on gear anyway...

Do it.

Just post in the right thread when you do!

I’m still having trouble ever choosing knives this thin/small/few tools. Even as their numbers increase in the collection for dating purposes.

And on that note, I think the earliest of the Waiters/Bartenders with the then ‘new’ Combo Tool are more like ‘77 than ‘78, as I previously estimated. Close to where I think the green flocked box liners were introduced.

Although I do like Little Saks, I may have to try the humble Waiter again, I know I say that, but the Classic on keys is a bit much for someone who dislikes keys...

Did I need a waiter? Probably not, but I’m happy I picked one up. It pairs nicely with my Spirit or Wave to add the corkscrew (and eyeglass screwdriver for the spirit), tweezers, and toothpick. It’s slim and fits into a sheath or disappears into pocket. It duplicates the knife and cap lifter, but so does my compact that pairs with my PST to add scissors and the scale tools. 84mm plus scales would be a nice addition, but I’m not sure if such scales exist. I believe there at one point was a waiter plus at 91mm, but not 84mm.

Yes there was a 91 but good luck finding one. I think there was one on that bay for a ridiculous price??

I do prefer the 84mm length. It’s too bad the 84mm golfer is so rare and expensive.

Actually it is not that difficult to add a pen to the 84mm scales. I did it to my Waiter using file from 111mm knife. The width of the file was just right to fit the pen.

That’s good to know. I assume there’s an unopened slot like in the non-plus 91mm scales? I’ve seen the Felix Immler video about that but never tried it.

No, there is not, but it is still doable. You can do it a bit rough like me or super clean like Kamakiri:

Oh I see now. Thanks for linking your post. That seems doable and probably worth the trial and error for the pen as I actually use the compact pen. I may try it with my swisschamp or spirit file.

Can the waiter handle opening a giant bottle of cheap wine? Yes…but with a lot of elbow grease. These big boys need 4 or more layer SAKs to open. I’ll take this as a sign to stick to the smaller bottles.

I have a suggestion.  Don't screw the corkscrew most of the way in and then pull the cork straight up.  Screw the corkscrew all the way in, until the opening of the bottle is pressing hard against the back of the knife.  Continue turning until the cork starts to rotate inside the glass.  Continue turning as you draw the cork out.

Thanks, bent a corkscrew on a larger SAK doing it incorrectly.
Screw top wine, can beer and vodka will not damage your corkscrew, trust me...

Thanks, that’s a good idea and close to what I ended up doing (which was to just turn until it was loose enough to pull).

Oh and here it is with my PSTII to compliment. I only did some office work today so the PST mostly stayed in the sheath - I think used the flat head as a pry bar, the scissors, and the pliers for some work on the printer. It was frustrating, hence the wine and beer.

No! Keep the big bottles, I think you need a bigger SAK.
