LM Blast. My initial thoughts.
on: October 08, 2008, 08:52:51 PM
I have had the Blast for a couple of days now, so here are my initial thoughts.  I will do a larger write up after I have tested it a little more.

-Overall feel is superb.  :)  Great fit and finish and I like the size of it. :)

-Tool selection is great, however, it lacks an awl.

-Pliers are really good with a large cutting area.

-Plastic inserts are better than I expected.  They add a great deal of comfort, however, I notice that the knife blade seems to stick out slightly above the finger grooves above the handles.  Seems it would be more comfortable to use if this blade just sat a little lower.

-Locks are good and easy to release.

-Knife blade seems to lack a bit of "belly".  It is shaving sharp though.

-Scissors are on the small side, yet very usable.

-No pocket clip option which seems a shame.

-Has a file, but not a diamond one.

-And lastly, the small bit driver is very tight and makes it difficult to change the bit over.

More thoughts to come.  ;)
I'm back!!

I Really do like my Blast. However I will say that it looks a little out of scale. I would love to see the handles about 1/4 inch longer. However you cant go wrong without it.

I like it's size.  :) It looks "chunky".

I was thinking you would be more like the Gerber MPT.  Slender, with stubby tools.  :P

I have a Blast and I really like it  My like and dislikes are much the same as yours :) I wish that it had a diamond file in it and a clip for ease of carry

I have thought of removing the lanyard ring on it and put a small washer in it's place because then I believe that you could use the removable clip and lanyard ring that comes with the Charge/Wave series (just a thought though ;) )

Other than the above problems I really like my Blast and of course an awl would be nice but a person could turn a flathead driver into 1 if need be ::) :D

Oooh! I should do a write up too! Although mine's modded a bit... maybe I can review the mods too. :D

I'm really liking the zytel inserts, actually, although I see no reason for them to be thicker near the plier instead of thickening the pliers...

Hey, but I'm not gonna carry my Blast into the woods, I think. I'd rather stick to my PST despite the uncomfortable handles. :D

Though I need to see about a diamond file... maybe I need a PSTII?

EDIT: Also, I miss the flag springs for the plier head... no more flipping play! And I find the locks clumsy and kind of uncomfortable...
Got those frog legs.

If The Blast had a diamond file and an awl instead of the small bit driver it would be a great improvement IMO.

See, I love the small bit driver.

Now, take out the bottle/can opener, put in an awl, and you have gold.

But usually, I just pair my Blast with a Vic Electrician, and then I have it all.
Fan of the Leatherman mini-bit driver and the Vic backspring philips.

The small bit driver is useful, but I would rather it was just a separate little piece tucked into the sheath.
