Image hosting site?
on: April 22, 2017, 11:01:04 PM
So I've been using Photobucket for years and the site has been getting worse and worse when it comes to speed, pop up ads and general site crashes/malfunctions.  I'd like to find another image hosting site that is free and works well for posting on forums.  Any suggestions?

I currently use imgur, but I too am interested in what others more experienced than me use.  :)
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

From a phone or tablet install the flickr app and just share it to flickr from your phone/tablets photo album/gallery

Can you find a "BBcode" link to copy? Maybe "Linked BB"? In the photos menu once upload.

Once uploaded click on the pic you want to share.
On the next page there will be five icons down the bottom right.
The right pointing arrow in the middle is share, click it.
Select bbcode and size wanted, copy and paste the code provided.
Here is one of mine for example. Well, three examples.

First the complete code provided, it will post a clickable pic and some additional info/links.

Code: [Select]
[url=https://flic.kr/p/TNkP25][img]https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2916/33998619282_0c6eab41dd_b.jpg[/img][/url][url=https://flic.kr/p/TNkP25]mto 2022[/url] by [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/drjohnzoidberg/]dr.johnzoidberg[/url], on Flickr

I usually prefer to cut the second half of the code off so it only provides the clickable pic.

Code: [Select]
[url=https://flic.kr/p/TNkP25][img]https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2916/33998619282_0c6eab41dd_b.jpg[/img][/url]

Thirdly you can keep just what's inside the img tags and it will only post the pic.

Code: [Select]
[img]https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2916/33998619282_0c6eab41dd_b.jpg[/img]

The first two examples when quoted will keep the pic visible.

(Image removed from quote.)

But the third one will hide it. And if the "image removed from quote" is clicked the pic will display at the resolution you selected and not the automatic forum resized resolution that was shown in the three example posts.

Wow thanks for taking the time to help me out.  I think my.biggest issue is simply finding the "share" arrow.  It doesn't appear on the screen with the photo either on the app or on the site.  The only share icon I can find is the three balls with two lines connecting them.  And nothing in that menu seems to show  BBCode.

You need the desktop version of the site to get the share arrow, not mobile - and it doesn't appear in the app at all. I can't access the desktop site on my mobile, but I can on my tablet - something to do with screen size I guess.

I see a menu near the upper left of the photo.

Selecting bbcode or linked bb will put the image address pre-wrapped with tags and stuff into the bar beside the menu to the right for you to copy.  :)
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

Thanks guys! Finally found the link options.  Had to view on the desktop site.  Was trying to use the mobile app and didn't find the links on there.

I use Tapatalk to browse, write, and upload.
Quite convenient and always available on the go.
Tapatalk hosts my added pics on their servers.

When on my phone I use Chrome and go to the Flickr site and after you click on a pic you can scroll down some and it will have flickr.com, click that and it will take you from the mobile to the regular site :salute:

If uploading from the phone just select what pics you want to upload and click the share icon in gallery (if using Android) then choose Flickr and press Share :salute: It uploads then reasonably fast in full version in both WiFi and mobile data

This has been the way I have been doing it for over 6 months reliably and came from Photobucket as well  :D

Ok. So it sounds like the app is omitting certain pertinent features to allow posting a correct link on the forum straight from THEIR APP. How lame is that Flickr?!

Since I'm taking the pictures quickly and conveniently on my phone, the only work around is uploading to their site via web browser and monkeying around that way?? Seems like a disconnect with their app. How hard would that feature be to incorporate to their own app lol.

Too much work for me probably will just load straight to site here and cut out the middleman and extra steps...

Been using imgur with success. Once configured it out it's as easy as Photobucket without all the lag and ads.   :tu:

Flickr have changed the mobile site so you can now go to the desktop version and get the URL from the share page.  Still a bit of a faff, but works ok.
