Lost Pilots - Summer

Huntsman again for this one. I say "again" but this is essentially the first episode filmed.
Anyway, glad to see it saw away.

Sawing bark for shelter roof.

Bunchberries, and creeping snowberries.

Clintonia borealis. Don't eat this one.

At it again.

Lily roots for lunch.

Lost Pilots - Winter

Huntsman for this one too.
And a nice axe. Probably not his Wetterlings Bushman, though.

Show content

This was his shelter in the Summer episode. Under that mountain of snow.

Point your hour hand at the sun. Halfway between that and 12 is South, so opposite of that is North.

The Huntsman was used to scrape magnesium and strike a spark. Not the best pics of it, but it's there.

He also used the axe to break off rocks to heat up.

Digging fishing hole with the axe.

It'll freeze overnight, so you have to break the ice again.

I like the lost episodes as you can really see how he got started out doing Survivorman :tu:

They were originally titled something like "Lost" or "Lost in the Wilderness"  I watched them way before they ever aired as Survivorman episodes  :tu:

Great stuff as always RP :like: :like:

5x01 - Jungles of Grenada

Camillus Fuego in this one.
It belongs to the Camillus Les Stroud Elite Series Ultimate Survival Knives (try saying that three times).

Cutting garbage bag for shelter.

He had a survival paracord bracelet, which he cut open in a hurry to beat the rain.

Eating palm hearts.

And mangos.

Cleaning the blade after cutting lemons. Do not try this at home.

Mango's again.

The survival bracelet had a hook and some line, so he made a rod.

Fishing for crayfish. Crayfishing?

Coconuts again.

Kindling.

The Fuego comes with a ferro rod.

What's the concept behind multitool/knife selection in every episode? Most of them are classics.

The knives are not shown in proper relation to each other size-wise.
The Aspero is 9" and the Coraje is 8.75" but both appear shorten than the 8.5" Fuerza.

5x03 - Tierra del Fuego

Helle Temagami for this.
I guess it would be too cheeky to have the Fuego knife in a place with Fuego in its name.

He found some old gaucho sheds.
Note: He had two horses with him for this one.

He had a .22 rifle with him, in case he got to hunt for wild cows.

Practicing him aim. Dead center after a few shots.

There was some cow fat in a cabin, along with some salt, and flour. He made some "survival donuts".

Remnants of the fat. Eating it before bed will keep you somewhat warm.

Did some fishing.

Then it snowed. A lot.

It reminds me of the Aussie Around the World in 80 days cartoon series of 1972.

According to Wikipedia and as I remember it:

Quote
Each episode has the same structure:

Fogg describes their destination to Passepartout.
Fogg asks Passepartout to pack the bag with a seemingly random collection of items.
Fogg teaches a proverb.
Fix describes aloud about his plan to stop Fogg.
Fogg and Passepartout follow their itinerary, while Fix tries to stop them.
During the journey, Fogg finds the time to explain the history and geography of the locations they visit.
Eventually, all the items Fogg and Passepartout took with them prove to be essential.
The proverb Fogg introduced at the beginning of the episode also proves to be essential for their success.
The episode ends with Fogg saying "Good job, Passepartout!"

I wouldn't like to call it based on just the first two pics, but that last one looks pretty convincing to me. :)

IIRC the notion, at least to start with, was his gear was based around the kind of things people commonly carried in the situations he was portraying.  If that's true though, a LOT more people need to think about carrying a lighter when out and about. :D

Some more pics of the knife.
You can kinda see the fuller in the first pic, and when he made the fire bundle. It's easier to see it when he makes the notch. Save the pics and look at them one after the other. Movement helps with these kind of details.

Camillus Fuerza (strength) and Camillus Coraje (valor).

Coraje for spear-fishing.

Les used the Coraje to gut the flounder. That's the heart.

And to make a platform to cook it.

Les moved the fire, and in the process stood with bare feet on the old pit.

That flounder.

Gotta love Survivorman.

They tied the kayaks together to form a catamaran, for stability while fishing.

Logan caught three, Les caught the little one.  :P

Les found some skunk cabbage for wrapping the fish.

They dug a fire pit. Rocks, leaves, the fish wrapped in leaves, more leaves, everything covered with sand.
The kelp tube is then stuck inside, and water is poured through, to make steam which will be trapped in and cook the fish.

Sand hockey.
