One of my father's hobbies was restoring old radios, and I built a couple of crystal sets with him when I was very small.

One of my earliest and most satisfying memories is hearing the BBC through an old ear piece. I like to do little "projects" like this with my own kids now, like building little robots (from kits) and RC cars. Great fun!

We have an old radio/turntable that was the first electrical device that my inlaws bought as a couple... the outer case is in good shape, but the insides need a good revision... I think we plugged it in once and smoke came out of it... so I think it probably is fried... maybe someday I'll get a new lab kit and get back into my Electronics background (I graduated as an Electronic Engineering Technician many years ago) and see if I can't get it working again, purely for fun...
