After decades of pinched palms cutting wire with the MP600 it was time for a change.  I knew what I wanted.  A painless Gerber, with locking blades and a driver that accepted 1/4" bits.  I looked around and there it was, with spring loaded pliers.
So far the CD gets used for basic light tasks.  When things get serious I have real tools close at hand.  I used it today to install a license plate frame. No I am not posting a image of my license plate, thank you very much.  I'm not impressed with the Phillips bit, but that's unimportant, I'll replace it with a impact rated bit soon enough.  I all ready removed the flat blade bit and a 1/4" socket driver rides in the bit holder now.  A 3" bit extension is in the pouch with the bit assortment. Maybe I'll add a few common sockets in the future.  I accept that the wire cutters are inadequate.  I have real tools to cut wire.  The pry tip is fine for small stuff.  If I need more my GAK has it covered.

My wife is right now using my center drive wire cutters to cut fake plants up to make autumn wreaths to sell. I used to get mad at this and now I'm just attracted. She always used to freak out when my tools are being used and I come home, glad they are being used and not shelf queens.

I finally acquired a Center Drive when it was included in the Surprise Box I received last month.  I like the spring loaded pliers, the very generous sized knife blade, and the sheath that can be worn horizontally is interesting too.  The date code on mine is 0871018D.  There's still a Surprise Box (or two) available to whoever claims it (or them) by the way. :pok:

Hey I can join….unfortunately I can’t seem to post pics lately.  I did get the CD last week and I enjoy it.  It actually checks most of the boxes for my preferences, but a big strike is the bulk.  It would be great if there were a smaller version, but the driver would probably be compromised.

I'll second that.  I don't know if it could be done, but a smaller version sure would be sweet!

I bought my CentreDrive as soon as it was available through the Gerber Pro program. I as saddened when they then released a version with scissors.

I am at work and will post pics of mine later as it’s in my truck.

After having used the center drive for the last five years, as well as the leatherman oht, mp600, and the Swiss tool spirit x, I can say that the cd is a very good tool, as long as you get one made on a wednesday :D.
The one I have now is my second one, the first one I bought had a plier issue and I had to sent it back for a replacement, the one I've got now I've used for everything from construction to work on the ship to maintenence work on the boats. Gerber can still make great tools but you just never know what your getting with the new ones. It's a shame to see such a great company slide the way they have the last decade

I must be stuck in 1974, because it seems to me that the Center Drive should be $59.95 and not $114.99.

But still I want one.

I've been using my center drive for over a year now. I switched from a Leatherman OHT. I loved the OHT but I had to send it in when the blade lock broke. What I got back was a refurb I believe and the slide lock flipped freely causing the pliers to open on their own in my pouch. I sent it back a second time, same thing I don't think they did anything to it. So I decided to go away from Leatherman and try the center drive.

What I like about the center drive, the slide for the pliers is nice, I like the length of the screw driver. I like the length of the knife.

What I don't like: I can't grip anything fine with the pliers. I find myself needing to crank down on small things with the pliers all the time and am unable to do that. The cutters are horrible. I replaced them with some from the little machine shop, but still terrible. I have to use my dad's leatherman cutters whenever I need to cut something or use actual cutters. Normally using them to try to cut CAT5 or CAT6 ethernet cable. The knife is a good length, but doesn't stay as sharp as my leatherman 420 did. I have to sharpen it far more often it seems.

I think this tool could be great, and I'd be willing to pay a hefty premium for better cutters, pliers and an s30v blade option.

Those cutters have been a complaint from the beginning.  I am still surprised that Gerber hasn't remedied this issue.

You are posting at the rate of one per year - but this year's post was a good one, as we appreciate the thoughts of an actual Working Man who uses his Center Drive on the job.

I agree. It's uncanny how much better the Leatherman replaceable cutters are.

Appreciate that. I'm gonna hang with it a while longer. Maybe some decent after market cutters will reveal themselves. That would make the other issues reasonable to deal with.

Occasionally, you'll find them for about that price, but pulled from military surplus Otis weapons cleaning kits. That's where mine came from. Honestly, given all the gadgets that come in the sets, I recommend just getting the whole cleaning kit, as they're usually just about $15 more than just the Center Drive to get a sealed kit.

Very true, if I could have the plier head from an oht on a center drive, and the leatherman saw, it would be the ultimate mt
