Hi, my CD managed to shear off the pivot bolt at the knife blade side on the weekend. It appears that replacement bolts are not available from Gerber. Anyone know where I can get a suitable replacement?

Secondly, when I was disassembling, a small folded piece that looks like some kind of retainer came loose from the bit holder. I can’t work out where it goes. Can someone please post a close-up photo of the bit holder so I can see it?

Thanks very much @Antti. That’s helped me see where the piece goes. Now I’ve just got to find a new pivot bolt and get the remains of the old one out of the centre piece

Welcome JF34 and, good tool choices you've made. I'm going to guess that the one with the laser etched date code is a first generation model, and the other one is a later production model; both real models. One way to be sure is to look on the blade of the "undated" one and see if it has a date code etched on the back side, right under the thumb hole or, stamped inside the handle under the blade. By the look of yours, I'd say look for the stamped 5-digit code on the handle.

thank's a lot you help me a lot , and you were totaly right , i have the  4 digits number  etched just like your photo on my centerdrive , who don't have any stamped code .

then i m happy to say my two center drive are real  and not fake .    it's like  poker when you purchase second hand on  web add ....

Had anyone come across this bit set for the Center Drive before?  It came in a MOLLE sheath with a black oxide CD.  I have only ever seen the straight bit set with no extensions or Allen wrench.

Picture's not showing on my end but, if it has like one or two "extended" bits, my understanding is it's from a Berry Compliant, GSA approved set for the military. Seen them occasionally on the bay but no longer on Gerber's web.

Thanks Juan.  I was having trouble posting the pic.  I didn't catch that right away

That's what it is then.  I couldn't find a reference to it anywhere.  I appreciate it!

On a similar note, are you aware of the Center Drive being issued to any military anywhere?  I'm not but I might have missed something

If I recall well, it does come in some weapons maintenance kits issued for the US Armed Forces, but haven't seen it anywhere else.

Edit- not issued, but sold to; most are by Otis Defense. Here's one

The Berry Amendment states that the DoD can only purchase textile, and other goods solely from US sourced and manufactured materials. Here' s a bit more technical info.

Barry, Juan is spot on. The Center Driver is from an M4 cleaning kit. The square bit with the four prongs is for the front sight adjustment.

Hi, i've modified the standard carbide cutter's, they now cut flex cable and multi strand wire a bit better, and still have enough strength to cut Mig welding wire, which there great at as standard, and i’ve discovered the hard wire notch strips the ends well.

I could have ground off more and they’d cut electrical wire better but i didn't want them to turn into dust! the mig wire is the primary use and the electrical wire cutting is a secondary function if some body else damages a electrical wire >:( the mig wire damages my USA MP600 non replaceable cutter’s.

The brown wire was “cut” by the standard carbide cutter

Thanks Juan!  I had no idea this was even available.  When I was in, you were lucky to even get a multitool, let alone a kit like that.

That makes sense then JonesE.  I wondered about that.
We had to use a sight adjustment tool from the range master, if they were lucky enough to have one available.  It's good to see that the quality of equipment has gotten better over the years.

Thanks, i ground them on diamond stone’s by hand.

If any one else wants to have a go I found it easiest to screw them to a small length of plastic/wood for holding and using a side to side motion.  Don’t bother wasting your time holding them in your finger’s, it doesn't take long before it gets painful, ask me how i know ::)

I’ll probably do the others at some point.

Victorinox tweezers added to the CD, the perfect spot for them existed all along! no more walking about the workshop when i get a splinter.

Ladder5, Great tweezers mod for the Center Drive. I really like that. I may have to poach that idea from you.

Thanks for sharing,
