I basically completed the challenge, but my updates were super lacking. I'll put up a final rundown, but I think I'll have to forego the badge this time.

Better nate than lever.

So, partway through the challenge, I got very inconsistent with my updates, then they ground to a halt. I kept carrying the tool, though, so here are my thoughts:

Coghlan was a fluke.


My 2013 challenge tool, red, being 1,000,000% superior to Coghlan Jr., green

My original Coghlan's tool (cleverly nicknamed Coghlan) was, despite its many flaws, generally successful in a commercial construction setting for an entire month. Coghlan Jr., on the other hand, had trouble with all but the easiest of tasks. I won't do a full tool rundown, because I've done it before, but I will mention its few successes and its many failures.

Successes:
  • The prybar was solid (even after the pins started coming apart),
  • The #1/2 Phillips came in handy once or twice
  • The can opener can open cans, and
  • The knife could basically handle the easiest jobs, mostly, with only semi-frequent sharpening.

Failures:
  • Tools now wobble like a wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tubeman,
  • Just like on the original Coghlan, there is a plethora of pointy tools on the back, most of which have the same function (bad awl),
  • The scissors gave up almost immediately,
  • The saw is a glorified fish scaler, and the fish scaler is a glorified popsicle stick, and
  • The knife blade dulls on anything harder than a boiled egg.

Sadly, we won't be having a repeat surprise winner like last time. My Farmer X or dedicated tools had to pick up a lot of slack on this one. Coghlan Jr., you are a major disappointment!
