Translucent scales durability?
on: June 08, 2017, 05:38:36 AM
Are the translucent scales any more rugged than the traditional cellidor?

I've had some cellidor scales crack and/or break, and I was wondering if the translucent are a step up from the old cellidor.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

The feeling I got from reading here was that the translucent scales aren't as robust as the traditional ones.

Having said that, I'm pretty hard on gear and my three sets have survived through years of use.

Sorry I can't give you a clear answer but I'm sure there will be others here who can.

Same.. have a bunch, and never had one crack... they seem to be on par with Cellidor in endurance (so below Nylon). It's just that being transparent makes them seem flimsier and scratches are also much more visible.

Note: You should see what I put my little Silvertech Rogue through and it still is intact...

I dropped a Silvertech scaled knife twice. The first time it chipped and cracked the scale, and the second time the scale broke in two. Since then, I always ensure I have some spare scales tucked away.

The Victorinox U.S. website shows that both the traditional cellidor and translucent scales are made of ABS/Cellidor.  Click on the individual knife models and look under "details" for scale material.  Both say "ABS/Cellidor."
