Looks like a nice chopper you have Eddie!  In addition to clearing brush, I'll bet it makes a hell of a home defense weapon!   :ahhh

Now if only we had a smiley like that brandishing a large blade!   :D

You are right, Def. It's an all-around knife.

The most widely used knife in the world may be the machete.

Donald, I got it for P1,500.00 from Solingen Store at SM in Cebu City.

The machete is a common knife/implement here in our place. Our main agricultural product is sugar and there are vast plantation of sugarcane all throughout the province. During harvest time, the machete is used in the manual cutting of sugarcanes.

The machete is the most versatile knife. It can also be considered a jungle knife. You can cut brush and saplings much faster with a machete than a chain saw.

Carlos, here's your request.

Machete as farm implement.

Our province is referred to as the sugarbowl of our country. You can drive for several hours with vast sugarcane plantations on both sides of the road.

Most of the sugar centrals (raw sugar factory) were constructed in the early twenties and the major means of transporting sugarcanes from the fields to the central is by cane cars pulled by steam locomotives. Few steam locomotives are still operating but most were already retired and replaced by powerful diesel engine driven locos. A retired steam loco on display.

Onboard a steam locomotive still in operation.

Some farmers still manually harvest their sugarcane.

And now see the machete in action...

Great pics!  Isn't there also a specialized blade for cane cutting? Somehow I recall the Australians using a specialized blade in their cane fields.
