That’s funny.  I saw the Signal as the offspring that resulted from a Mut that was on leave for 24 hours, had a wild night with a Rebar, and then never called.  The Signal got its size, it’s plier head, can opener and awl from the Rebar but between the hammer, outside OHO tools, skeletonized body, etc. etc. etc.  I figured that the Signal was definitely the Mut’s smurf child that was abandoned in the woods and left to fend for itself.
