That's a real beauty, tell me, are all soldiers dated by year? 42/43/44/45/46 etc all the way up to 2017?

Correct. From the early models to the current model, the swiss soldier knives were always numbered.

They started numbering them in 1921.

All are numbered, but Victorinox make no soldiers in 1958, 1960, 1961, 1972 and 1974.
And now sadly my year of birth  is 1972, so no SAK for me

Not sure about Vic, but Wenger sure did make a 1972 soldier knife :salute:

I have one as well. I was quite surprised I found for $20.  Unlike yours however, mine isn't in the greatest shape. The blade is half an inch short and oversharpened with a grinder.   That's a really great find!  Living in the US means a knife intended for use in Switerland isn't easy to find. Mine came from a Montana based Etsy seller, with a ton of knives in not the best shape selling for $20 shipped, regardless of what they were worth; some incredibly undervalued, some overvalued.
